OKPONAKUMA CELEBRATES 2015 NEW YAM FESTIVAL

The traditional ruler of Okponakuma community in Njaba local government of Imo state, HRH Eze V.C Duru, has celebrated this year's new yam festival, with a difference by using the first palm fruits, of the plant a palm programme of Imo state government, to celebrate the festival. The event which was grand by all standards, started with a thanksgiving mass at St Joseph's Catholic Church Okponakuma. In his homily, the officiating priest commended HRH Eze V.C Duru, for his steadfastness at ensuring that the tradition of his community, which is associated with the norms of the society, is maintained. He urged the people of Okponakuma,to work hard to improve on their harvest, stating that the law of nature is hinged on moving forward and not backwards. HRH Eze V.C Duru, at the palace with other traditional rulers from Njaba and his people, performed the ceremony of cutting the yam, which signified that the pregnant land has delivered, and by implication means that the people of Ok

Editorial: Task before ministers

The side attractions that followed the nomination, screening and confirmation of ministerial nominees, who have so far been screened by the DSS, and the Nigerian Senate, leaves no one in doubt that the presidency, is bent on getting the best hands  in the country, to pilot the affairs of government and governance in the next four years. The question,  if he has gotten the best hands, will soon be put to test, when these ministers are giving their portfolios today. The failure or success of this administration, however lies greatly on the performance or non performance of these ministers, whom to many were not the saints, that, where however envisaged for the President Burhari led administration, because of the various statements accredited to the president, on his fight against corruption and  impunity in government, which has been the order of the day in past administrations in the country.
