POLICE ARREST VIGILANTE OPERATIVE OVER MURDER OF MAN IN OZUBULU, ANAMBRA

The Anambra State Police Command, Friday, January 21, arrested one Friday Nwachukwu of Udorji Road, Ozubulu, in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State over alleged murder of one Isaac Ubah of Akwa village in the community. The suspect, according to our source, went to Akwa Village to arrest one Kelvin Ubah, who allegedly escaped arrest over yet to be ascertained offense but his brother, one Isaac Ubah, came out from the house  and demanded for reasons why the vigilante group are looking for his brother. Consequently, struggle ensued between them, and on the process, one of the vigilante members, Friday Nwachukwu, allegedly shot Isaac Ubah on his chest with a Pump Action gun and hurriedly left the scene. Police Patrol team attached to Ozubulu Division, which rushed to the scene took the victim to Access Hospital for treatment but the he was later certified dead by a medical doctor. Breaking: Buhari suspends Onnoghen, swears in Mohammed as acting CJN

President Muhammadu Buhari has suspended the Chief Justice of Nigeira (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, pending the completion of his trial at the Code of Condcut Tribunal. President Buhari announced  the suspension at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja today. He said the suspension followed the order of the CCT directing him to suspend Onnoghen, pending the completion of his trial. The President has sworn in Justice Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed as the acting CJN. Mohammed who hails from Bauchi state is the most senior justice of the Supreme Court.

INEC releases Regulations, Guidelines for 2019 polls

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Monday, released the Regulations and Guidelines for the conduct of the 2019 general elections in the country. INEC announced this in a statement dated January 12, 2019, and personally signed by its chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu. It disclosed that the regulations and guidelines covered the general elections, bye-elections, re-run elections, as well as supplementary elections. The electoral umpire explained that this was done in exercise of the powers conferred on it by the Constitution and the Electoral Act 2010. It added that the regulations and guidelines supersede the existing ones. In the document signed by INEC chairman, the Commission disclosed that accreditation of voters and voting would hold simultaneously between 8-2pm. The section on the method of voting also prescribed that the Permanent Voters Cards and Smart Card Reader shall remain instruments of identification of prospective voters

Police Arrest Murder/Robbery Suspects recover Arms.

Following intelligence report,Police  operatives attached to Federal Special Anti robbery Squad (FSARS) Akwuzu have arrested a syndicate at Ire village, Ogidi in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State, On 12/1/2019 at about 4am. It was gathered that the suspects had on the 11/1/2019 allegedly robbed and killed one Ifeanyi Nwanga in ifite dunu at about 4:30 pm with a gun. The suspects are Chimezie Aronu 'm' aged 22 years, Uchenna Obiora 'm' aged 18 years and, Chibuike Omankwu 'm' aged 20 years. They however  confessed to the crime and also led the Police to the place where they hide the weapon used in perpetrating the dastardly act. Exhibit recovered from the suspects include one cut to size single barrel gun and one cartridge. The case is presently under investigation after which suspects would be charged to Court for prosecution.

ADOL-PAUL HOSPITAL, UTUH OFFERS FREE MEDICAL TREATMENT

Recently, a newly established mission hospital, Adol-Paul Specialist Hospital, Utuh, Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, owned by The Redeemed Pillars of Fire Praying Ministry, Inc., has rolled out free medical treatment, where individuals suffering from one health problem or the other were diagnosed and treated free. The free medical outreach organized on Monday, January 7, 2019, was part of activities marking the official opening of the health facility. Our correspondent reports that over 1,000 cases of eye problems were diagnosed by optometrists, and free lenses were given to the patients. Other category of patients, who reportedly received free medicare during the outreach include those diagnosed of hepatitis A and B, elderly people with prostrate enlargement, as well as those with some other sicknesses, both communicable and noncommunicable diseases. President Muhammadu Buhari has said the Police are supposed to be at the forefront in fighting crimes in the country, not the army. Buhari also noted that even though the idea of state Police is great, he does not buy it.
