His Excellency, the Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma has signed into law the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act VAPP today in the presence of Her Excellency, Barr (Mrs) Chioma Uzodimma who has championed the enactment of this very law in the fight against sexual and gender-based violence in our society. This Act which is an improvement on the penal and criminal code in relation to violence, seek to eliminate violence in private and public life, prohibit all forms of violence including physical, sexual, psychological, domestic, harmful traditional practices, discrimination against persons and to provide maximum protection and effect remedies for victims and punishment for offenders. Having been assented to by the Executive Governor of Imo State the bill, now an Act, becomes a Law of Imo State and as such, enforceable on offenders. Yesterday, as the Executive Governor of Imo State, His Excellency the Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma marked his 63rd birthday anniversary, imolites gathered in their numbers to join the family, friends and associates of the governor in celebration and thanksgiving to the Lord for his grace. The event which was meant to be a private one, saw troops of imolites into the government house in felicitation even as a thanksgiving service was held at the rear Admiral Ndubuisi kanu's square to thank God for the year 2021. Yesterday, 12 December 2021, a tanker laden with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) exploded at Chris-Tee filling station near Boromio roundabout, Onitsha causing harm and total damage to the gas station.  Men of the Fire Service and FRSC Rescue Team were seen on ground working very hard to curtail the inferno. The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State, Corps Commander Adeoye A Irelewuyi implored the public to be calm and patient, while the Fire Service battle the Fire and prevent it's escalation. Meanwhile, the area has been cordoned off and traffic diverted, for ease of movement. According to an eye witness Report, the fire started at CHRISTEE Gas plant and spread over to the two other nearby Fuelling Stations (CHRISTEE and SILVER Fuelling Stations). The fire is still ongoing, but the Fire Service is on top of the situation working assiduously to put off the fire. However, the total damages and casualties are yet to be ascertained, as the fire is still burning.
