ANAMBRA STATE GOVERNMENT DISSOCIATES ITSELF FROM SO-CALLED "ANAMBRA AWARDS"

The attention of Anambra State Government has been drawn to the existence of some phantom awards being promoted by some groups  or NGOs with a bogus caption as “ANAMBRA Awards”—- a caption that confuses or deceives the public.  The said “awards “ are scheduled to hold on 1st July, 2023 at the Stanel Event Centre, Awka. The Government has received several calls from unsuspecting persons who assume that the Government is involved in the “awards”. We respect “free speech” and the right of any individual or group to express their opinions about anyone through recognitions or “awards”, and for whatever “purpose”. But the title of such awards or recognitions, must not leave anyone in doubt that such represent the personal/subjective “opinions” of the awarding group or NGO.   Reputable newspapers and organizations give their annual “man of the year” awards but they are sincere to appropriately caption them as: “The Sun Man of the Year”, “Vanguard Man of the Year”, etc.  They do not caption th

Umuona Community elects new Traditional Ruler.

  Umuona Community in Aguata LGA of Anambra state, yesterday made a loud statement and history as well by electing a new Traditional Ruler, after the Anambra state government dethroned the former traditional ruler Humphrey Ejesieme  after an in-depth investigation about the running battle in the community between the throne and the town union.  Recall that the former traditional ruler has been at daggers drawn with the elected President General of the community, Chief Kenneth Okoye(Ide Umuona) over issues bordering on ethics and respect for the office of the PG. Ohanaeze fumes as kidnappers go on rampage in Enugu

The youth wing of apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has expressed outrage over the sudden resurgence of kidnapping in Enugu State.  Between Monday and Friday, (yesterday) several travellers have been abducted along the Enugu-Ugwuogo-Opi Nsukka Road. A road user confirmed that the hoodlums attacked commuters three separate times on Thursday. While the first attack occurred by 12 pm, the second attack occurred by 2 pm. Another group of commuters were kidnapped by 5 pm. Earlier on Monday, Tuesday and on Wednesday, several commuters were also abducted despite several military and police checkpoints along the road. Acting IGP Egbetokun Unveils New Policing Strategy

The acting Inspector-general of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, is set to establish specialised Quick Intervention Squad, which will comprise combat-ready Police Mobile Force (PMF) personnel with effective and enhanced training in crisis de-escalation and violent crime reduction strategies. The IGP revealed this at a meeting with senior Police officers in Abuja as one of his policy strategy, aimed at tackling the menace of crimes and criminality and achieving operational successes and re-igniting public trust. Ohanaeze crisis: Iwuanyanwu real impostor, fighting Tinubu selfishly - Youth wing fires back

The National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike has fired back at the Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu-led Ohanaeze Ndigbo, accusing him of playing selfish and ethnic politics to the detriment of Ndigbo.  Okwu’s comment was in reaction to a statement issued against the youth wing through Alex Ogbonna, the National Publicity Secretary of the Iwuanyanwu-led Ohanaeze.  The apex Igbo group has been operating under two factions, a matter that is now subject of litigation.  In a statement made available to journalists in Enugu on Thursday, Okwu said some chieftains of the Igbo group were against him because he was not dancing to their selfish tunes.  He said it was laughable that Iwuanyanwu, who was not elected by anyone, was busy issuing orders.  He said his only crime was congratulating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and for commending Tinubu’s appointment of an Igbo son from Enugu State as one of the Service Chiefs.  He said rather than allow the court to adjud

CBN Lifts Restriction On $10k Deposit On Domiciliary Account

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has said cash deposits into domiciliary accounts will no longer be restricted, and customers “shall have unfettered and unrestricted access to funds in their accounts”. The apex bank spoke in a statement issued after a meeting with the Bankers’ Committee on Sunday. The meeting was meant to provide further guidance to deposit money banks (DMBs) on the recent operational changes to the foreign exchange market and to discuss the implementation and implications of the policy changes for the banking public.
