Buhari Signs Amended Constitution To Allow States Generate, Transmit Electricity

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has signed into law the constitutional amendment allowing states in the country to licence, generate, transmit, and distribute electricity. This was made known in a tweet by the presidential media spokesperson, Tolu Ogunlesi, on Friday. He tweeted, “ President #MBuhari has signed 16 Constitution Amendment Bills into Law. By this signing, State Houses of Assembly & Judiciaries now have constitutionally guaranteed financial independence, while Railways have moved from Exclusive Legislative List to the Concurrent List. “Another landmark change: By virtue of the Presidential Assent, Nigerian States can NOW generate, transmit and distribute electricity in areas covered by the national grid. Wasn't allowed pre-amendment. This is genuine, realistic restructuring — through the Constitution.”

The Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has reacted angrily to the fresh threat against the Igbo in Lagos State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election. In a trending video, MC Oluomo was seen threatening that any Igbo who would not vote for the All Progressives Congress, APC, should sit at home. SUSPENSION OF NLC STRIKE: EEDC DIRECTS ITS STAFF TO RESUME WORK IMMEDIATELY

The suspension of the NLC strike in Imo state has come as a big relief to many, especially for the people of the South East.  With the suspension of the strike the head of corporate communications to EEDC Mr Emeka Ezeh has issued a statement directing it's staff to go back to work.   After weeks of hibernation and denial, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has directed commercial banks and every concerned person(s) in the country to accept old N200, N500 and N1000 notes as legal tender. In a statement that was issued by its acting director in charge of corporate communications, Dr Isa AbdulMumin, the central bank said the new directive was in compliance with a Supreme Court judgement that had extended the use of the old currency notes till December 31, 2023.  “In compliance with the established tradition of obedience to court orders and  sustenance of the Rule of Law Principle that characterized the government of  President Muhammadu Buhari, and by extension, the operations of the Central  Bank of Nigeria (CBN), as a regulator, Deposit Money Banks operating in  Nigeria have been directed to comply with the Supreme Court judgement of  March 3, 2023,” AbdulMumin said in the statement.  The decision was taken after the CBN met with the Bankers’ Committee and directed

  The Central Bank of Nigeria has cleared the air on directing commercial banks to dispense and accept the deposit of old Naira notes amid the raging currency crisis. Dr Isa Abdulmumin, Acting Director of Corporate Communication CBN, in an exclusive chat with DAILY POST on Monday, clarified that there is no statement from the apex bank telling commercial banks to dispense and accept the old N500 and N1000 notes from Nigerians. Abdulmumin was reacting to a statement by the Governor of Anambra State, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, claiming the apex bank had directed commercial banks to dispense and accept the old notes. He said, “Governor Charles Soludo’s statement emanates from him, not the Central Bank of Nigeria. The Central Bank has not issued any statement directing banks on a collection of old naira notes. EEDC INTRODUCES ASAP, OFFERS DISCOUNT TO CUSTOMERS WITH OUTSTANDING ARREARS

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) has introduced a new product known as Accelerated Settlement of Arrears Project (ASAP), designed to assist its customers with outstanding arrears clear them while enjoying attractive discounts. The uniqueness of this product is that it offers graded discounts, ranging from 25% (for one-time payment), 20% (for three months payment by installment), and 35% (for debts of 5 years and above), and appeals to only Non-Maximum Demand (NMD) customers. To benefit from this program, the customer's account must not have benefited from any previous discount scheme offered by EEDC and the arrears have to be within the period before 1st January 2023. In addition, customers must have subscribed to MAP metering, with Demand Note issued, as a conscious way of ensuring that debts are not allowed to accrue further. This initiative is introduced by EEDC to relieve its customers of some debt burden, considering the very challenging economic situation
