NASS COMMITTEES: Intrigues, Horse-trading As Presidency Hijacks Process

There is intrigue and underhand dealing in the Senate and House of Representatives over the composition of the standing committees in both chambers of the National Assembly. It was gathered that senators and House members are unsure of their fate as the process of allocating them into various steering committees of the two chambers has been hijacked by the Presidency, with desperate ones among them reportedly parting with huge bribes to be allocated juicy committees. A powerful aide to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is reported to have hijacked the process from the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas. Consequently, senators and members of the House have shunned Akpabio and Abbas in desperation to realise their ambition of presiding over ‘juicy’ committees. They have now resorted to lobbying the presidential aide, who holds the ace in the scheme of things, in the National Assembly. The presidential aide is reported to have sidelin

IMO STATE GOVERNMENT THROUGH THE MINISTRY OF LANDS IS NOT IN ANY LAND GRABBING WAR WITH THE PEOPLE OF OWERRI WEST

In recent times, there have been allegations circulating about the Imo State Government engaging in land grabbing activities in Owerri West through the Ministry of Lands. However, a closer look at the situation reveals that these claims are unfounded and misleading. Under the leadership of the Commissioner for Lands, Hon. Noble Atulegwu Abiaso, the state government is committed to transparent and equitable land allocation, ensuring the welfare of its citizens and promoting sustainable development. It is essential to understand that according to the Land Use Act of 1978, all lands in Nigeria are vested in the government, and individuals can only hold land rights as granted by the government. This means that the government has the authority to utilize land for the betterment of the people, subject to due process and compensation where necessary. The actions of the Imo State Government fall within the purview of this legal framework, and no land grabbing is involved. Moreover, the state

YOUR BITTERNESS ON UZODIMMA MAY CONSUME YOU

... as you cannot join APC through the back door. The opposition PDP in Imo State is engulfed in an inferno that has left the members fleeing for safety to the doorstep of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which they have identified and described as democratically-driven and people-oriented, as a  result of Governor Hope Uzodimma's liberal leadership demeanor. Having identified the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the greatest and most populous party, Mr. Ugochinyere is strategically routing his way into the party, treacherously, as always. This, he hopes to achieve by assassinating the person and character of His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, whose position and contributions to the growth and stability of the party stands out. Unfortunately, Mr. Ugochinyere still thinks himself a 'clout-chaser" instead of a "caretaker" representative of a Federal Constituency and should face the business of legislation. At the hallowed chambers, Members
