Supreme Court Condemns Criticism Of CJN Over Comments In Rivers

The Supreme Court has dissociated the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, from a political statement on the activities of the five governors of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) otherwise known as G-5 Governors. Also, a prominent Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Barrister Ahmed Raji, called on the CJN to ignore mischief-makers. The apex court in its first official reaction, said unequivocally that Justice Ariwoola never made any comments to the effect that he was happy that his home state governor, Seyi Makinde, was among the G-5 Governors. A statement by the director of information and press, Supreme Court of Nigeria, Dr Festus Akande, said those crediting the CJN with the comments were just out to score cheap goals with the remarks  of Justice Ariwoola at a public function in Port Harcourt. PDP targets one million votes for Atiku/Okowa in Anambra

Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, Director-General of Atiku Abubakar-Ifeanyi Okowa Presidential Campaign Management Committee of the  Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra says the party will win majority votes in the state. “We are targeting not less than one million voters who will troop out en-masse on the day of election; cast their votes for the PDP and defend their votes,’’ Okonkwo said. Okonkwo also said at a management meeting of the committee on Saturday in Awka that it had received reports on support groups working for the party in the state. Atiku Unveils $10bn Youth Employment Scheme

The PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, said he would earmark the sum of $10 billion to tackle youth unemployment if elected as Nigeria’s president in the 2023 general elections. Atiku disclosed this in Ilorin, Kwara State, at the flag- off of the PDP North Central campaign rally, at the Metropolitan Square, Ilorin. BVAS: Youths will shut down Nigeria - Ohanaeze warns INEC, APC

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, OYC, has reacted to the fresh controversy over the deployment of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS and the INEC Results Viewing Portal, IReV, for the 2023 general elections. 3 Years After Crude Oil Discovery In North, Buhari Flags Off Drilling Tomorrow

Three years after the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd discovered crude oil in commercial quantity in Northern Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari will tomorrow officially flag off the ground-breaking ceremony of the Kolmani OPLs 809 and 810 at the Kolmani field site in Bauchi and Gombe states. The NNPC Ltd had in October 2019 announced the discovery of crude oil, gas and condensate in the Kolmani River region at the border community between Bauchi and Gombe states. This oil field is to be developed by Sterling Global Oil, New Nigeria Development Company and NNPC Limited. This is as stakeholders in the oil and gas industry have submitted that Nigeria is now more forward looking in efforts to develop her natural resources. The ceremony will be attended by the president who also doubles as the minister of Petroleum Resources. 2023: PANDEF sticks to pact with Afenifere, Ohanaeze, MBF; rules out northern candidate

South-South influential group, Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, is sticking to the decision of the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF) to mobilize support for only parties fielding southern candidates in the 2023 presidential election. SMBLF comprises of PANDEF, Afenifere (South-West socio-political group), Ohanaeze Ndigbo of the South-East and the Middle Belt Forum and took the position to back southern candidates based on power rotation between the North and South of the country. PDP Crisis: G-5, Others Transmute Into Integrity Group, Consolidate Opposition

THREE ARRESTED IN ENUGU FOR ASSAULTING STAFF OF EEDC

Three young men were on Friday arrested at Ibagwa Town Hall area of Abakpa Nike, Enugu East Local Government Area and Imeama Iwollo in Ezeagu Local Government Area, both in Enugu State, for assaulting staff of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) who were carrying out their official duties.
