Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo sends his warm congratulatory greetings to former Nigeria goalkeeper, Emmanuel Okala who attained the age of 71 on Tuesday, May 17, 2022. Governor Soludo commends Emmanuel Okala's heroic feats as one of Nigeria's outstanding goalkeepers who manned the goal for the Nigeria National football team between 1972 - 1980. The Governor recalls Okala's selfless service and exceptional patriotism to the nation adding that he was in the team that won the All-Africa Games football gold in Lagos in 1973. He was also part of the Green Eagles, now Super Eagles who won bronze at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana 1978. The squad also  finished as runners-up at the All-Africa Games in Algiers four months later. The Governor notes Okala's glorious moments came when he was named Africa's best goalkeeper by the Africa Sports Journalist Union in 1975. He was equally in the Rangers International FC squad that won the Africa Cup Winners' Cup in 1977. G

Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has condemned in strong terms, the abduction of the member representing Aguata Constituency II at the State House of Assembly, Hon. Okechukwu Okoye. The Governor also condemned the abduction of Hon. Okoye's Campaign Director, Mr. Cyril Chiegboka. They were both abducted on May 15, 2022. The Governor therefore called for their immediate release. Governor Soludo  however bemoaned the spate of insecurity across the State in recent times where innocent citizens have been attacked or killed, happening at a period when his government is already reaching out to critical stakeholders for the restoration of peace and security in the State. Enugu electricity distribution company EEDC has lamented the destruction of it's Ogidi office by unidentified hoodlums masking under the pretence of freedom fighting.  In a press release made avaliable to newsmen through the Head of communicatios of the company Mr Emeka Ezeh says "In the early hours of today, Monday, 16th May, 2022, at about 1.45am, the Ogidi District of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) was set ablaze by unidentified criminal elements, leaving about 32 utility and operational vehicles all burnt, including other assets and equipment within the premises."   A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Accountant General of the Federation to immediately halt the distribution of more than One trillion naira due to oil producing states pending the determination of the suit  before it. The Court, presided over by Justice Ahmed Mohammad in an interim injunction held  that the distribution of the derivation funds without the indices of the Revenue, Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) was injurious to the applicant which is the Imo state government. The Imo state attorney general had in a suit No FHC/ABJ/CE/415/2022, against RMAFC and others challenged the distribution of the said funds without unambiguous indices by RMAFC as provided by, in Nigeria's Constitution.   The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) has called on motorists to exercise caution while driving on the highways, especially as we have entered the rainy season, where visibility is usually poor once it’s raining. Imo State Government has urged citizens of the state to remain calm as it is still awaiting the certified copy of the judgment delivered by the Supreme Court over the disputed oil wells with Rivers State. The Attorney general of the state,Barr C.O.C Akaolisa in a statement issued in Owerri noted that the Counsel to the Government,Chief Olusola Oke informed him that the Supreme Court granted a part of the claim of Rivers State while it refused another part. He said since both parts had not been made known to Government,it is premature to speculate on the outcome of the judgment. He expressed surprise at the statement by Gov Nyesom Wike claiming victory and embarking on celebration. Chief Akaolisa said the action of the governor suggested that he might have had a preknowledge of the judgment hence the celebration.
