The Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has reacted angrily to the fresh threat against the Igbo in Lagos State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election. In a trending video, MC Oluomo was seen threatening that any Igbo who would not vote for the All Progressives Congress, APC, should sit at home. …FIFTEEN VANDAL SUSPECTS IN POLICE NET The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) has continued to cry out to its customers on the increasing rate of attack on its facilities, a situation that is almost crippling its activities and impacting its service to customers. The Head, Corporate Communications, EEDC, Mr. Emeka Ezeh, made this cry while interacting with newsmen in Enugu on Wednesday. Ezeh lamented that the activities of vandals has become a torn in the flesh of the company and appealed for vigilance and continued support by customers. According to him, fifteen vandal suspects were arrested between January and February, this included a receiver of vandalized items. He commended the various vigilante groups within the franchise area for their assistance and support in apprehending these vandals. “All the vandals were arrested by vigilante groups”, Ezeh said. The suspension of the NLC strike in Imo state has come as a big relief to many, especially for the people of the South East.  With the suspension of the strike the head of corporate communications to EEDC Mr Emeka Ezeh has issued a statement directing it's staff to go back to work. In a statement made available to this newspaper, the head of communication for the EEDC said that"As a result, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has been informed by the Labour Union to restore supply immediately to enable the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) distribute power to its customers." An understanding was reached yesterday (Tuesday) between Imo State government and Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) to suspend the industrial action in Imo State.   After weeks of hibernation and denial, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has directed commercial banks and every concerned person(s) in the country to accept old N200, N500 and N1000 notes as legal tender. In a statement that was issued by its acting director in charge of corporate communications, Dr Isa AbdulMumin, the central bank said the new directive was in compliance with a Supreme Court judgement that had extended the use of the old currency notes till December 31, 2023.  “In compliance with the established tradition of obedience to court orders and  sustenance of the Rule of Law Principle that characterized the government of  President Muhammadu Buhari, and by extension, the operations of the Central  Bank of Nigeria (CBN), as a regulator, Deposit Money Banks operating in  Nigeria have been directed to comply with the Supreme Court judgement of  March 3, 2023,” AbdulMumin said in the statement.  The decision was taken after the CBN met with the Bankers’ Committee and directed

  The Central Bank of Nigeria has cleared the air on directing commercial banks to dispense and accept the deposit of old Naira notes amid the raging currency crisis. Dr Isa Abdulmumin, Acting Director of Corporate Communication CBN, in an exclusive chat with DAILY POST on Monday, clarified that there is no statement from the apex bank telling commercial banks to dispense and accept the old N500 and N1000 notes from Nigerians. Abdulmumin was reacting to a statement by the Governor of Anambra State, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, claiming the apex bank had directed commercial banks to dispense and accept the old notes. He said, “Governor Charles Soludo’s statement emanates from him, not the Central Bank of Nigeria. The Central Bank has not issued any statement directing banks on a collection of old naira notes. The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) has introduced a new product known as Accelerated Settlement of Arrears Project (ASAP), designed to assist its customers with outstanding arrears clear them while enjoying attractive discounts. The uniqueness of this product is that it offers graded discounts, ranging from 25% (for one-time payment), 20% (for three months payment by installment), and 35% (for debts of 5 years and above), and appeals to only Non-Maximum Demand (NMD) customers. To benefit from this program, the customer's account must not have benefited from any previous discount scheme offered by EEDC and the arrears have to be within the period before 1st January 2023. In addition, customers must have subscribed to MAP metering, with Demand Note issued, as a conscious way of ensuring that debts are not allowed to accrue further. This initiative is introduced by EEDC to relieve its customers of some debt burden, considering the very challenging economic situation

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) wishes to inform her esteemed customers in Imo State that the loss of supply currently being experienced is as a result of the industrial action by the organised labour union in Imo State. This led to the shutting down of our source of supply, leaving us with no energy to distribute.  As a result, all our customers under in Imo State are without electricity supply.  We understand the inconveniences this situation will cause our customers, and we are hopeful that the issue will be resolved within the shortest possible time so we can restore supply to our customers.  We therefore appeal to our customers to be vigilant and ensure the electricity infrastructure serving them are not attacked by vandals who might want to take advantage of the situation to attack and vandalise electricity facilities.  We remain committed and working assiduously to deliver improved services.
