The catholic diocese of Nnewi has celebrated its second Diocesan synod, tagged living the faith, in justice, peace and reconciliation in the catholic diocesan of Nnewi, with reference to Matthew 5:13-14 “ you are the salt of the earth..... You are the light of the world. In his homily the Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Dr Valerian Okeke thanked God for making it possible, for the catholic diocese of Nnewi to celebrate its second synod, an event which is usually takes place every ten years. He thanked clergy and the laity of the diocese for their support all these years and prayed that God should guide and protect them in their various endeavors towards the development of the church in Nnewi. For some time now, the issue of achieving a sovereign state of Biafra has taken the center stage in the political sphere of Nigeria, with agitations from different Pro- Biafra groups, calling for an independent state of Biafra. Formerly, it was MASSOB, led by Chief Ralph Uwazurike, who have since its inception called for a sovereign state of Biafra, but he was not taken serious by the Nigerian government, which saw him as an opportunist, whose interest was basically self. History has it, that during the days of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, Chief Uwazuruike’s MASSOB, which was calling for the actualization of Biafra indeed supported the administration of Goodluck Jonathan,  in contradiction to his avowed resolve, to achieve a sovereign state of Biafra. The honorable commissioner of Agriculture in Anambra state, Hon Afam Mbanefo, has commended Nnewi Butchers Association, led by Chief Amobi Nnoruka for the giant strides they have made in Nnewi, to ensure that meat processing is healthy, and fit for human consumption. He made this assertion recently during a tour of abattoirs in Anambra state, which coincided with world food day; a day set aside to celebrate the creation of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on October 16, 1945 in Quebec, Canada. First established in 1979, World Food Day has since then been observed in almost every country by millions of people. In his interaction with members of Nnewi Butchers association in their office complex, he thanked them for their efforts at making sure that Anambrians consume good meat, and said that in line with the state governor's directive on the issue of meat processing in the state, his ministry is taking action to see that quacks who have no business deal

The traditional ruler of Okponakuma community in Njaba local government of Imo state, HRH Eze V.C Duru, has celebrated this year's new yam festival, with a difference by using the first palm fruits, of the plant a palm programme of Imo state government, to celebrate the festival. The event which was grand by all standards, started with a thanksgiving mass at St Joseph's Catholic Church Okponakuma. In his homily, the officiating priest commended HRH Eze V.C Duru, for his steadfastness at ensuring that the tradition of his community, which is associated with the norms of the society, is maintained. He urged the people of Okponakuma,to work hard to improve on their harvest, stating that the law of nature is hinged on moving forward and not backwards. The side attractions that followed the nomination, screening and confirmation of ministerial nominees, who have so far been screened by the DSS, and the Nigerian Senate, leaves no one in doubt that the presidency, is bent on getting the best hands  in the country, to pilot the affairs of government and governance in the next four years. The question,  if he has gotten the best hands, will soon be put to test, when these ministers are giving their portfolios today. The failure or success of this administration, however lies greatly on the performance or non performance of these ministers, whom to many were not the saints, that, where however envisaged for the President Burhari led administration, because of the various statements accredited to the president, on his fight against corruption and  impunity in government, which has been the order of the day in past administrations in the country.
