Malam Mamman Daura, the nephew to President Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday, placed a call to President Muhammad Buhari, from his hospital abode in the United Kingdom. This is contained in a video which made headlines posted on Elombah TV on Saturday. Malam Daura, during the phone call, assured President Buhari that he is sound, hale and hearty. The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is proposing to collect excise duty on soft drinks, abolished in 1993 by the interim national government. Appearing before a joint committee of the senate on finance and national planning on Thursday, Hameed Ali, comptroller-general of the NCS, said the federal government should lift the tax waivers for companies producing soft drinks within the country. Ali argued that if companies producing alcoholic beverages and tobacco could pay taxes, those producing soft drinks could do the same. “We have been pushing for the expansion of our own excise collection. During the (Ernest) Shonekan regime (in 1993), excise was stopped for carbonated drinks manufacturers, like Coca-Cola,” the retired colonel said. “The only one approved for us are tobacco alcoholic beverages. The understanding then was that tobacco and alcoholic beverages affect the health of citizens and should be taxed. “But we know that carbonated drinks are also injurious to the health of the peop

The Minister of Aviation, Mr. Hadi Sirika has announced that  resumption of international flights will start from the 29th of August, 2020. Mr. Sirika made this known through his Twitter handle on Monday. According to the Aviation Minister, the resumption will begin with Lagos and Abuja. He said that protocols and procedures will be announced in due course before takeover.  Recall, International flights have been suspended over fears of spread of Corona Virus since March of this year.

Twelve Anambra traditional rulers who were suspended by Governor Willie Obiano for travelling to Abuja to see President Muhammadu Buhari have rejected Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, as chairman of Anambra state traditional rulers’ council. The traditional rulers who met with Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, Chief of Staff to President Buhari, on behalf of PMB, said they do not consider Igwe Achebe as their chairman as his tenure had long expired. Anambra State Government has Suspended the Igweship Certificates Of 12 Traditional Rulers For A Period Of One Year. This is coming at the heels of the imbroglio between the Governor and these traditional rulers who are said to be at daggers drawn with the state government. A circular from the  Commissioner for Local Government Chieftaincy matters, Mr Greg Obi which made available to Nigerian Notch, said the twelve traditional rulers traveled outside the state without consultation or authorization from the state government an act seen as diversionary with the intent to cause disaffection in the state.
