As our nation commemorate  the anniversary of June 12 celebration today, there is need for us to strive towards sustaining and consolidating democratic principles in Nigeria. Indeed, June 12 is a turning point and watershed in the nation’s political history. It also remains the unequivocal demonstration of popular will in our democratic history, it is also the story of resilience, unity and people’s commitment to our democracy. Figuratively speaking, there is a correlation between the living ideals of the late political sage Chief M.K.O. Abiola, and the dilemma of our democracy today. There is also an explicit intercoure between the ideals of June 12 and the quest for consolidation and sustenance of our democratic principles. Excitement rented the air when Traders in Nsukka Zone, known as Nsukka Zonal Amalgamated Traders Association* (NZATA) shared palliatives donated by Enugu State Government under the leadership of Rt. Anambra state government has shut down the popular Eke Awka Market in Awka Metropolis, over non compliance with directives of the state government on covid19 safety measures put in place by the state government. The European Commission has requested member-states to have their borders reopened, due to the improvement of COVID-19 situation. With the recent improvement seen in the COVID-19 situation, and in response to it, the European Commission announced on June 5, requesting member-states to have their borders reopened by July 1.
