The Honorable Minister of State, Education, Hon Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba today joined H.E Sen. Hope Uzodinma, Executive Governor of Imo State in receiving the Vice President,  Prof Yemi Osibanjo to Owerri  Imo State. The Vice President was in Owerri to commiserate with the Imo people on the recent attack on Police Headquarters and the Owerri Correctional Facility and to also commission some projects executed by the Sen Hope led government.  Also present to receive the  Vice President were Chief Uche Ogah,  Honorable Minister of State Mines and Steel Development, H.E Rauf Aregbesola, Hon Minister Interior, Hon  Miriam  Onuoha, Member Representing Okigwe North.  While talking with the press, the Vice President stated that what happened in Imo is an attack on the people and not just the police and correctional center. President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of DIG Usman Alkali Baba as acting Inspector General of police. He immediately replaces Mohammed Abubakar Adamu.The Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi disclosed this to State House correspondents on Tuesday. The president had on the 4th of February, extended the tenure of Mohammed Adamu as the Inspector General of Police for three months out of which the erstwhile police boss spent two months and three days.

The national vice president of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief Damian Okeke Ogene, has paid glowing tributes to the former military governor of Lagos State, Rear Admiral Ndubisi Kanu, and a second republican senator, Chief Onyeabo Obi, who have joined their ancestors. The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has stated that 1,844 inmates escaped following the attack on its custodial centre in Owerri, the Imo State capital. According to a statement by NCoS spokesman, Francis Enobore, the yet to be identified gunmen had stormed the facility in the early hours of Monday 5th April 2021, gained entrance into the yard by using explosives to blast the administrative block open. The statement however stated that 35 inmates refused to escape while others fled. A comprehensive investigation into the incident has been ordered by the Acting Controller-General of Corrections, John Mrabure. This is to be carried out in conjunction with other security agencies. Enobore’s statement reads: “The Owerri Custodial Centre in Imo State has been attacked by unknown gunmen and forcefully released a total of 1,844 inmates in custody. “The attackers who stormed the facility at about 0215hrs on Monday 5th April, 2021, gained entrance into the yard by using explosives to blast
