President Bola Tinubu has appointed immediate-past governors of Rivers and Ebonyi states, Nyesom Wike and Dave Umahi, as Ministers of FCT and Minister of Works, respectively. The president has also appointed the former Jigawa state governor , Abubakar Badaru as Minister of Defence, and Hannatu Masuwa as Minister of Arts and Creative Industry. Others include Lateef Fagbemi, SAN as Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, while former Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola, will servce as Minister of Transportation. The Management of the National Assembly has disclosed that the payment of N2 million to each of the 109 Senators last week was meant for the running costs of their offices. The clarification by the Senate's bureaucracy was contained in a statement by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Magaji Tambuwal and signed by the Secretary, Research and Information, Dr. Ali Umoru. The statement lamented the criticisms that greeted the payment of the money since the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, made it public shortly before the federal lawmakers embarked on their current annual recess. It explained that the funds were actually appropriated for in the 2023 National  Budget. Orders recovery within six months Araraume, Uche Nwosu,Anwuka to lose houses The Committee set up by Imo State Government for the recovery of land belonging to Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education (AIFCE), yesterday indicted former governor Rochas Okorocha for using brute force to disposses the college of its land. Submitting its report to Governor Hope Uzodimma, the committee recommended the recovery of the Shell Camp land from Okorocha and his associates within six months and hand the same over to AIFCE. The report which was signed by the Chairman,Prof  Vitalis Orikeze Ajumbe and the secretary, Barr B F Anyanwu,  regretted that Okorocha,as governor, used brute force including the military and hoodlums to snatch the land from the College after which he allocated or sold same to his top associates. Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has lauded what it called unity of purpose among the five South-East governors.  The group said this in a communique issued after their meeting in Enugu over the weekend.  The communique was signed by its National President, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike after their meeting in Enugu.  They said the collaborative efforts of the governors had resulted in the reduction of insecurity in the region.   The Imo state government has banned all forms of unauthorized levy collection taskforce in the state. This was made known to newsmen yesterday in an official press release signed by Oguwike Nwachuku, the Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the Governor. In the statement he directed that, all persons or groups involved in the reckless collection of levies in Imo State without the strict authorisation of the governor have been asked to desist forthwith or have themselves to blame.
