NUMTEN Anambra State Council Shuts Down Awka, Holds Inaugural State Exco Meeting

...Lauds Soludo, Fixes Date For Official inauguration

The State officers of the National Union of Market Traders Employers of Nigeria (NUMTEN), Anambra State Council led by Comrade Nnamsom Nwafor-Orizu, on Friday, 23rd August 2024 held its maiden Executive Council meeting in Awka, Anambra State Capital with a call on the traders and market leaders to embrace and identified with the Union created solely to serve as a bridge between the traders and the government.

  Speaking during the inaugural meeting held at Horizontal Palace Opposite Kwata Flyover, Awka, the Chairman of the NUMTEN Anambra State Council, Comrade Nnamsom Nwafor-Orizu thanked the members of executive strictly drawn from different markets in the state, for their proactiveness and punctuality, emphasizing that they were given a huge assignment and must be accomplished, saying that their duty was to oversee all the activities going on in the over 64 recognizable markets in Anambra State and as well serve as a bridge between the traders and the government of the day.

  According to the Chairman, the Union is domiciled inside the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity and was officially gazetted, stating that it was duly registered under the Trade Union Acts and affiliated to Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), adding that they would begin in ernest to carry out the mandate given to the Union's Executive Council members by the Federal government of Nigeria, adding that NUMTEN is in all the states of the federation including FCT.

 Comrade Nwafor-Orizu said they were saddled with the responsibility of looking out for ways to help and improve the markets infrastructurally and otherwise and as well care about the traders' welfare, announcing that they were created and backed by the federal government of Nigeria and would be reporting directly to the federal government through the Ministry of Labour and Productivity.

  The NUMTEN Anambra State Council Chairman while explaining the role of the Union paid a glowing tribute to the National President of NUMTEN, Comrade Chukwuma Ogu whom, he said, worked assiduously towards the creation of the Union and for his leadership qualities, even as he asked him to continue to churn out plans that make the Union the best in the Council.

  He commended the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo for creating the enabling environment for the NUMTEN Executive Council to carry out their assignment and for the good works he is doing in the state. 

  The Union through the Chairman announced that they have fixed October this year for the official inauguration of the Executive Council members of NUMTEN, Anambra State Council, subject to the National leadership's approval. 

  In their separate speeches, the Vice President of NUMTEN, Southeast, Comrade Emmanuel Anabuonye and the NUMTEN Anambra State Council's Secretary, Comrade (Amb.) Great Ikechukwu Ugwuoke enjoined the exco members to be alive to their responsibilities and contribute their quota, saying that for the Union to achieved its aims and objectives all hands must be on deck, emphasizing that indolence and unproductivity would not in anyway be condoned, even as they urged the Exco to justify their inclusion and leverage the Union to prove their worths.

Tension In Uruagu Nnewi As Community Leaders Dare Soludo,Defy Court Order
