FRSC PARTNERS NDLEA,TO TACKLE DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra State is teaming up with the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to tackle driving under the influence of drugs (DUI). This partnership aims to restrict the sale of drugs in motor parks across the state.

Key Objectives of the partnership include the restriction of drug sales, as FRSC seeks NDLEA's help in limiting drug availability in motor parks in the state. The partnership also hinges on the Joint operations between the NDLEA and FRSC on operations to check drunk driving.

In a press release made available by RC Margaret B Onabe, the Ag. Sector Public Education officer for the Sector Commander in the state, said that Data sharing with the FRSC will offer a robust data bank to aid NDLEA in tracing vehicles and drivers.

In her remarks during the courtesy call to the NDLEA boss, Corps Commander Joyce Nnennaya Alexander emphasized that while FRSC can apprehend drunk drivers, it cannot prohibit drug sales without NDLEA's support. In his response the NDLEA State Commander, Onyishi Daniel Ogbonna, assured FRSC of his agency's readiness to participate in joint operations, focusing on non-socially accepted drugs like Indian hemp and cannabis.

"This collaboration is timely, considering the upcoming ember months with high vehicular movements. The operation will begin with advisory and cautionary measures, followed by full enforcement in its second phase."
