Dr. Chioma Awuzie, Marks One Year in Office as Rector Federal Polytechnic Oko, at Monthly Prayer Meeting

The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, on Tuesday marked her first anniversary in office during the institution’s monthly prayer meeting held on February 4, 2026.

Speaking at the gathering, Dr. Awuzie explained that the prayer session, initially scheduled for February 3, was rescheduled to enable the Polytechnic community commemorate her one year in office during the event.

In her address, the Rector expressed gratitude to God for sustaining her leadership journey, noting that meaningful progress in administration is achieved not only through experience, policies, or intellect, but through total dependence on divine guidance. She urged leaders and administrators to commit their plans to God, stressing that sustainable development is achieved when leadership is guided by clarity, stability, and excellence.

Dr. Awuzie called on staff of the institution to align with both God’s will and her vision for the development of the Polytechnic, expressing confidence that the institution would witness greater impact and sustainable advancement.

The Rector later led prayers for the Polytechnic, the nation, and staff families. At the end of the prayer session, members of staff took turns to commend her leadership style, describing her first year in office as impactful, focused, and transformative.

Former Acting Rector and Acting Dean of the School of Science and Technology, Dr. Augustina Ugo Okeke, said Dr. Awuzie had brought a new lease of life to the institution, citing improvements in examination administration, environmental cleanliness, peace, and cordial working relationships.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Dr. Fidelis Oduah, described the Rector as union-friendly, noting that staff welfare-related requests are treated with prompt attention, which has made union leadership engagements smoother.

In her goodwill message, the Dean of the School of Business Studies, Dr. Chioma Eni, described the Rector as dynamic and exceptional, stating that her achievements were evident across the institution. She prayed for continued guidance and protection for her.

Also speaking, a former Acting Rector, Dr. Chukwugekwu Ubaka, described Dr. Awuzie’s appointment as a well-considered decision, commending her commitment to institutional best practices and urging the Polytechnic community to continue supporting her administration.

Other speakers at the event included the Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. Nwabu Ezemba; Head of the Rector’s Media Team, Celestine Oguegbu; Pastor Julius Adebisi; and Dr. Joy Obiora.

Highlights of the event included the screening of a documentary showcasing the Rector’s achievements within one year in office. These include the reactivation of the Polytechnic water factory and bakery, construction of a medical centre at the Ufuma Campus, resuscitation of the Polytechnic printing press, construction of a staff sports club and guest house, and the establishment of a well-equipped Skills Development Centre.

Other achievements listed were the mounting of new academic programmes and re-accreditation of existing ones, security upgrades, provision of potable water through boreholes, introduction of a student work-study aid programme, reduction of school fees, revival of the Polytechnic FM radio station, timely promotion of staff, and restoration of end-of-year Christmas packages for staff.

The event also featured a special prayer session for the Rector, led by designated staff members and Dr. Ubaka. The celebration concluded with the cutting of an anniversary cake by Dr. Awuzie, flanked by members of the Polytechnic’s management committee.
