Federal Polytechnic Oko Trains 200 Youths Under IDEAS-TVET Programme

No fewer than 200 youths are currently undergoing intensive training in livestock farming, networking and security installation at the Skill Development Centre of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, under the IDEAS-TVET Initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education.

The institution was highly rated among participating Training Service Providers (TSPs) during the IDEAS Cohort 2, Batch 2 flag-off ceremony held at Nnamdi Azikiwe University.

Other participating TSPs from Anambra State include Federal Technical College, Awka, UNIZIK Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies, Holy Rosary Vocational and Innovative Institute, Great AI-Mac Nigeria Limited, Ever Fresh Vocational Institute, African Network for Disaster Risk Reduction Sustainable Development, Derbrino Global Concept Aguata, Institute of Arts and Craft Uga and Wokin Tools Nigeria Limited.

The six-month programme, organised by the Federal Ministry of Education with support from the World Bank, is designed to equip Nigerian youths with practical skills, entrepreneurial knowledge and workplace experience at no cost.

Speaking on behalf of the Project’s National Coordinator, Mrs. Blessing Ogwu, at the flag-off, Eldad Domshak described the initiative as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s human capital development. He disclosed that about 40,000 youths are currently being trained nationwide in various skills, including fashion design, garment making, vulcanising, computer hardware and GSM repairs.

According to him, the programme combines classroom instruction, internship opportunities and entrepreneurship mentorship to prepare participants for self-employment and job placement.

In his remarks, the Director and Training Programme Manager of the Skill Development Centre, Engr. Ogonna Nwokoye, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, and the Federal Ministry of Education for their policy direction and support.

Nwokoye noted that Federal Polytechnic Oko was assigned the highest number of trainees in Anambra State under the IDEAS-TVET scheme. He attributed the centre’s growth to investments in infrastructure, equipment and manpower development.

He added that trainees receive hands-on instruction and will be provided with empowerment kits upon completion, alongside certification under the National Skills Qualification Framework, positioning them for employment both locally and internationally.

Tinubu Appoints Chioma Awuzie Substantive Rector, Fed Poly Oko
