RECENT KILLINGS IN ANAMBRA: IFEANYI UBAH CALLS FOR CALM

....Says Ndi Anambra are known to be peaceful

Senator Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, Anambra South Senator and Candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the forthcoming Gubernatorial election in Anambra has called for calm as he has also frowned at recent killings of supposed unknown gunmen, which has become a daily occurance in various parts of Anambra State lately.

Speaking in a recent interview with the Igbo News Channel of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Senator Ubah lamented that many innocent souls have been lost within a short period, which does not represent the true interest of Ndi Anambra as a people. He however condoled with the families of those whose loved ones where killed by the gunmen at a time like this.

On the identity of the gunmen, the YPP Candidate said they can't   be Anambrains because Ndị Anambra are known for peace and that the state has always known peace especially during  elections and wondered what has brought about this scenario in Anambra.  He  called for a change of heart from the gunmen to change their ways and stop terrifying the state.

Senator Ubah however condemned the incitement of youths by some Igbos in the Diaspora and asked all to embrace peace and respect constituted authorities because no process can be achieved in a democratic state without an election. He also warned that the killings will only end up imposing unpopular Candidate on Ndị Anambra because if not checked, majority of eligible voters will be afraid to come out and vote, and such will lead to an emergence of an anti-people government.

He stressed that the rampant killings which have instilled fear on the state’s residents and Ndị Igbo at large, will only get worse if nothing urgent is done about it. Senator Ubah blamed Anambra State Government and other governors of the South East for not bracing up to take charge of people’s welfare in the region.

He condemned in strong terms the negligence exhibited by the South East governors during a meeting recently convened by Southern Governors in Enugu to proffer solutions to insecurity ravaging the Southern region of Nigeria and urged Ndị Igbo to rise and defend their homeland.

According to him, "the failure of the governors to attend such meeting convened in their territory speaks volume about their insensitivity to the present security and other challenges facing their states and Ala Igbo at large."
