The Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, yesterday flagged -off the distribution of relief materials to victims of the 2022/2023 flood victims  in Akwa Ibom state.

The materials received by the agency in the state for distribution include bags of 25kg  rice, canoes, bags of salt, roof sheets and household items among others.

The commissioner representing the state on Governing Board of the NDDC, Abasiandikan Nkono who performed the flag-off of distribution in Uyo, said the gesture was part of the Commission’s move at alleviating the plight of those affected by the flood disaster in Niger Delta region.

Nkono said the Flood victims from the 31 local government areas of the state will take turns to get the items.

He stressed that the commission was in sync with the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda of the president, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration, and assured that the federal government will continue to identify with  the state  at all times.

His words,“On behalf of the Managing Director and Chairman of the Governing Board of NDDC, I say that other projects especially roads shall be done. They will be construction of a good number of roads in the State.

“The NDDC has enjoyed a robust relationship with the Akwa Ibom State Government under Governor Umo Eno. Gone are the days when the state government used to clash with NDDC.

“It is not a competition. The development between NDDC and the state government should bring blessing to the entire state.

"Thank God, we have enjoyed a good robust relationship with the state government Pastor Umo Eno -same is applicable to other states of the federation.”

The State’s representative implored the local government representatives to ensure judicious distribution of the relief materials, stressing the importance of prioritizing the grassroots beneficiaries who bore the brunt of the natural disaster.
