Zone 9 Police Command Clears Air on Alleged Extortion

The Zone 9 Police Command, Umuahia, has vehemently denied allegations of extortion leveled against its officers, describing the claims as baseless and a deliberate attempt to tarnish its reputation.

Dsp Iheanetu Bruno Chukwudera, Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 9 Headquarters, Umuahia. November 12, 2024, who signed the press release said that at the center of the controversy is Kingsley Ofobuike Chigozie, who was accused by the Nigerian Association of Patent and Proprietary Medicine Dealers (NAPPMED), Ohafia Branch, of operating an unregistered chemist, selling unapproved drugs, and performing illegal abortions.

A search warrant executed at Kingsley's premises uncovered various illegal substances, including tramadol and codeine, as well as forged documents purporting to be certificates of registration with NAPPMED and the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

Kingsley confessed to forging these certificates and conducting 10 illegal abortions, which was corroborated by statements from victims.

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police has ordered a thorough investigation to ensure transparency and accountability, urging the public to disregard the false claims circulating online.
