Rivers State Chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Suspends President Over Alleged Misconduct

In a dramatic turn of events, the Rivers State chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has suspended its chairman, Mr. Lucky Ekeji, over allegations of gross mismanagement of funds and endorsing a candidate as the sole contender for the Ohanaeze Presidential race, contrary to the organization's constitution.

The suspension was announced after an extraordinary meeting convened by Comr. Chime Amadi, leader of the indigenous Rivers Igbo community in Port Harcourt. The meeting was attended by members of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Rivers State chapter, who unanimously agreed to suspend Ekeji and his leadership.

Ekeji's endorsement of a non-Rivers indigene as the sole candidate for the Ohanaeze Presidential race was seen as an attempt to divide the Igbo house in the state. The group has warned Ekeji to stop parading himself as the president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Rivers State chapter, and has asked the Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide to disregard him.

This development comes as the Ohanaeze Ndigbo prepares for its presidential election, with Rivers State demanding the presidency as stipulated by the constitution of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide socio-cultural organization.The Rivers State chapter has been pushing for a candidate from the state to occupy the position, citing the rotational leadership structure outlined in the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Constitution.

In the interim, Comr. Kalfa Aduruchi Agonda has been appointed as the interim chairman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Rivers State chapter, as part of a three-man committee. Comr. Agoh A. Benjamin of Emohia has been appointed chairman of the disciplinary/panel of inquiries committee, while Comr. Henry of Etche has been appointed secretary.

The panel of inquiries has been tasked with submitting a report within the next 48 hours, while Ekeji and his leadership remain suspended.
