ANAMBRA STATE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL MEETS, AWARDS CONTRACTS FOR INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT

The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) held its first meeting for the year on February 3, 2025, at the Council Chamber, Awka. The meeting addressed critical issues affecting the state, including erosion and infrastructure development.

The Council decried human conducts fuelling stormwater and gully erosion in the state, which has endangered some communities and transformed the state into an ecologically endangered zone. It urged communities to take action to prevent sand excavations in undesignated areas of the state.

In a bid to expand critical infrastructure, the Council awarded several contracts, as stated in press release made available to this medium by the Commissioner for information Anambra State, Dr Lawrence Mefor, they include: Protocol Lounge at Chinua Achebe International Airport: Gill Associates Ltd, was awarded the contract to build a Protocol Lounge at the airport, valued at N144 million, to be completed in seven weeks. Rehabilitation of Internal Roads at COOUTH Amaku: The Council approved the release of N380,600,669.48 for the rehabilitation of all internal roads with a complete asphaltic overlay at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH) Amaku, Awka.
Aguata Storm Water Project Master Plan: Damtech Nig. Ltd. was awarded the N140 million contract to create a responsive master plan for the management of the Aguata Storm Water Project, to be finished in three months.
Completion Works at Specialist Hospital Fegge: The Council approved the release of N84,255,318.00 for the completion works at the specialist hospital Fegge, Onitsha South LGA, awarded to Crystal Dove Construction Company Ltd.

These projects are expected to enhance the state's infrastructure and promote economic development. The Council's efforts to address erosion and infrastructure development are commendable, and it is hoped that these initiatives will have a positive impact on the state's ecosystem and economy.

Tinubu Appoints Chioma Awuzie Substantive Rector, Fed Poly Oko

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie as the substantive Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State.  Dr. Awuzie's appointment, which takes effect immediately for a five-year term, follows the recommendation of the Polytechnic's Governing Council, chaired by Sen. Federal Polytechnic Oko Holds Two-Day Recruitment Interview to Address Staff Shortages

The Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, has begun a two-day interview exercise aimed at recruiting qualified personnel to fill vacant positions arising from staff retirements and other forms of exit from service. The exercise commenced on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. and is being overseen by the Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, who personally announced the names of shortlisted candidates. Addressing the applicants, Dr. Awuzie cautioned that while many candidates were invited for the exercise, only a limited number would eventually be engaged, citing budgetary constraints facing the institution.
