Human Rights Abuse: Lawyer Condemns Anambra Government's Detention of Native Doctors

A prominent human rights activist and attorney, Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has strongly condemned the unlawful detention of approximately 30 native doctors in Anambra State. The native doctors were arrested weeks ago by state authorities and have neither been charged with any offense nor presented before a court of law, raising serious concerns about violations of their fundamental rights.

Ejiofor emphasized that security is a collective responsibility and commended Governor Soludo for establishing the Agụnechemba security outfit to restore order. However, he clarified that his support for the government's efforts to combat insecurity does not extend to condoning human rights abuses.

The human rights lawyer expressed concern about the handling of the detainees, who have not been placed in the custody of the Police, Department of State Services (DSS), or military agencies. He criticized those who support this breach of law and called for greater transparency and accountability from the state authorities.

Ejiofor urged citizens to actively participate in combating insecurity by providing credible intelligence. He reiterated his commitment to justice, stating that he will never support anyone found to be facilitating criminal activities.

The Anambra State government has confirmed the ongoing detention of the native doctors, citing suspicions of their involvement in fraudulent activities linked to "get-rich-quick" schemes associated with "Okeite" practices. However, the charity foundation Tilova for Africa has pledged to finance legal representation for the detained native doctors, criticizing the arrests as "unjust profiling"

Federal Polytechnic Oko Holds Two-Day Recruitment Interview to Address Staff Shortages

The Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, has begun a two-day interview exercise aimed at recruiting qualified personnel to fill vacant positions arising from staff retirements and other forms of exit from service.
