Dr Chioma Awuzie Inaugurates New SUG Leaders at Federal Polytechnic Oko

The Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, has inaugurated the newly elected executives of the institution’s Students Union Government (SUG), urging them to serve with integrity and leave behind a legacy that future generations of students will celebrate.

The inauguration, which took place on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at the Mass Communication Complex, was conducted by Engr. Barr. Ezeilo Joseph.

In the recent SUG election, Comrade Anuluonye Ifechukwu Joseph of the Department of Electrical/Electronics Engineering emerged President, while Comrade Nweke Kosarachi was elected Vice President. Other executive members include:

Comrade Dimejesi Marydoris – Assistant Secretary General

Comrade Okafor Ifechukwu – Financial Secretary

Comrade Chinedu Meshark – Treasurer

Comrade Nwokpuru Eugene – Public Relations Officer

Unegbu Chinwoke – Provost

Okolo Isaac – Director of Transport I

Ezechukwukaeme Emelie – Director of Transport II

Joseph Izuchukwu – Director of Welfare

Oguzie Solomon – Director of Sports

Obilo Makuochukwu – Director of Social

Also sworn in were the Speaker of the Students’ Parliament, Comrade Uzoagbala Chibike Kenechukwu, alongside other parliamentarians, as well as members of the judiciary arm of the union led by Chief Judge Comrade Ekweali Godwin Chiemelie and Chief Justice Comrade Nwadike Philip Chidera.

In her charge to the student leaders, Dr. Awuzie reminded them that leadership is about service, peace, and accountability.

“Remember that the Polytechnic is your home, protect it. The students are your mandate, serve them. The management is your partner, work with them. Let your tenure be remembered as one of peace, creativity, accountability and impact. Build bridges, not walls; inspire trust, not fear,” she said.

She further cautioned students against cultism, examination malpractice, sexual harassment, extortion, and other social vices, assuring that management will uphold its zero-tolerance policy on misconduct.

In his acceptance speech, SUG President Comrade Anuluonye Ifechukwu Joseph thanked his colleagues for entrusting him with their mandate. He pledged to align his administration with the Rector’s vision for the institution, particularly in enhancing students’ welfare and introducing innovative transport strategies.

“We will support the Rector and management with respect and constructive engagement. Effective communication between the union and management will remain our priority so that students’ voices are heard and addressed,” he said.

Earlier, the Director of Students’ Affairs, Comrade Chibuzo Asomugha, commended the management for ensuring a peaceful and transparent election process. He advised the new executives to remain focused and channel grievances through the appropriate offices of the institution.
