QRC Onitsha ’83 Alumni Hold Memorable 2025 Reunion in Nnewi

The serene Moonshine Residence, Uru Umudim, Nnewi, Anambra State, came alive recently as the 1983 set of Queen of the Rosary College (QRC), Onitsha, held its 2025 reunion and convention.

The four-day event, which ran from Thursday, August 21 to Sunday, August 24, was a colourful celebration of unity, philanthropy, recognition, fitness, entertainment, thanksgiving and camaraderie among the old girls who have sustained their bond 42 years after leaving secondary school.

In her welcome remarks, the president of the association, Prof. Viola Chinenye Udeze, lauded members for their consistent support and commitment, noting that the reunion was aimed at rekindling bonds and sustaining ties with their alma mater.

“We are gathered today to reconnect, share and celebrate individual achievements, inspire one another, and reaffirm our collective commitment to building a better future for ourselves and humanity,” Prof. Udeze said.

Highlights of the convention included the conferment of patronship awards on Engr. Ike Edward Amene, Igwe Gerald Mbamalu (Igwe Oranyelu I, Eze Ojoto III), and Prof. Victor Madubuko, while Dr. Ifeyinwa Madubuko was specially honoured for her benevolence and support.

The group also paid courtesy visits to the Obi of Nnewi, HRH Igwe Dr. K.O.N. Orizu III, and Igwe Gerald Mbamalu of Ojoto. In addition, they extended charity to the Motherless Babies Home, Nnewi, with donations of essential items. A fitness session featuring jogging and aerobics was also part of the reunion programme.

Reacting to her award, Dr. Madubuko, who served as senior prefect in 1983, described the honour as a “monumental treasure,” while recalling her journey from Federal Government scholarship studies in Russia to her eventual relocation to the United States.

The pioneer president of the set, Lolo Ngozi Obi-Anyabolu, expressed joy that her vision of uniting the group had become a reality. “Forty-two years after, we remain a formidable force bound by love and communal living,” she said.

Ambassador Chinenye Nebolisa-Amene, chair of the Organising Committee, who flew in from the United States for the reunion, praised members for their dedication and recalled the group’s past contributions to QRC, including the renovation and equipping of the school library.

Vice President, Chief Uju Oduyemi, and Secretary, Dr. Ifeanyi Offor, both expressed pride in the enduring unity of the group, describing the 2025 edition as the most fascinating and inspiring yet.

The convention featured a cultural display, a gala night, cutting of the reunion cake, and award presentations, capped with a thanksgiving Mass at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, Uru Umudim, where members made generous donations.

Dignitaries at the event included Prof. Tochukwu Victor, Barr. Obiamaka Ifediche Madubuko, Chairman of Anambra Beach Soccer Association and CEO of Moonshine Residence, Mr. Mahmood Hadeja, Chairman of Africa Beach Soccer Association, Dr. Emma Nsoedo, former Anambra State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, and representatives of Chief Innocent Chukwuma, CEO of Innoson Vehicles Manufacturing, among others.

For many attendees, the reunion was more than a gathering—it was a reaffirmation of lifelong sisterhood. Members left with fond memories and a renewed commitment to return in 2027 for an even bigger celebration.

Tension In Uruagu Nnewi As Community Leaders Dare Soludo,Defy Court Order

The President of Uruagu-Nnewi Development Union, Chief Sunday Okoli aka Organizer, and the Obi of Uruagu-Nnewi community in Nnewi North local government area of Anambra State, His Majesty Afamefuna Charles Obi, have swept Soludo's directive to the gutters, by reason of their suspension and subsequent dessolution of the leadership of the community's youth forum, led by Ejike Ifejiofor, and subsequent appointment of caretaker executive to pilot the affairs of youths in the community.
