Anambra Joint Security Team Recovers Snatched SUV, Arrests Female Accomplice in Kidnap and Armed Robbery Case

The Anambra State Joint Security Team has recovered a snatched Toyota Highlander belonging to a kidnap and armed robbery victim and arrested a female accomplice linked to the crime in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, operatives attached to the 3-3 Police Station, in collaboration with the Agunechemba Security outfit, Nkwelle-Ezunaka Unit, made the breakthrough in the early hours of October 27, 2025.

The arrested suspect, identified as Okonkwo Onyinye, 23, is said to have played a supporting role in the robbery operation that left the victim traumatized and millions of naira taken from him.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was ambushed by five armed men operating in a Toyota Corolla at the Nkwelle GRA Gate. The gang reportedly forced the victim into the boot of his vehicle, a white Toyota Highlander SUV, and drove off to a bush in Umuoji Town. There, the suspects allegedly dispossessed him of his phone and transferred ₦24 million from his account before abandoning him and fleeing with his vehicle.

Acting on credible, technology-driven intelligence, the Joint Security Team traced the movement of the suspects from Nkwelle to Nawfia and later to Ogidi, where the gang reportedly engaged security operatives in a sporadic exchange of gunfire before escaping the scene.

The police subsequently recovered the stolen Toyota Highlander, bearing registration number RBC 649 CN, while the female accomplice, Onyinye, was arrested at the location. She is currently in custody and assisting investigators with information that could lead to the arrest of the fleeing gang members.

SP Ikenga noted that the operation underscores the Command’s commitment to maintaining law and order, especially as the state prepares for the November 8, 2025, governorship election.

“The Anambra State Police Command remains resolute in its efforts to combat crime and ensure public safety across the state,” Ikenga said. “Our patrols and intelligence-gathering operations have been intensified to guarantee the protection of lives and property.”

The recovered vehicle has been returned to the victim, while further investigations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects and dismantle the criminal network behind the incident.
