RAYMOND OZOJI reports
The Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS) says it aided arrest of some of the suspects linked to the murder of Arise TV newscaster Miss Somtochukwu Maduagwu and the security man on duty, Barnabas Danlami.
Deputy Commander-General (Intelligence Department) of the Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS) Dr. John Metchie who hailed the courage and intrepid disposition of the operatives of NFSS, said the role of the NFSS in the arrest of the suspects showed that the NFSS was the missing link in the nation's security architecture.
Metchie who spoke with this journalist exclusively on why governments at all levels should see the Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS) as a dependable complimentary security formation in the fight against crime and criminality, said that the NFSS provided critical support to the Nigeria Police in apprehending the armed robbery suspects who killed the Arise TV newscaster and security man on duty.
He noted that the NFSS in collaboration with the police, apprehended five suspects terrorising Zuba and its environs. That the operation which led to the arrest of the hoodlums followed two consecutive attacks by the gang on a popular hotel in Zuba in the Federal Capital Territory Abuja.
He said further investigation led to the arrest of more suspects and the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one pump-action gun and a Beretta pistol from their hideout.
Metchie therefore appealed to the government to support Nigeria Forest security service as many of them have served the nation for years without remuneration or welfare packages.
He thanked the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, for recognising the crucial role of Nigeria Forest Security Service in tackling insecurity in the country and equally extended appreciations to the Nigerian Army, Police and other security agencies for their cooperation in joint security operations across Nigeria.
The DCG Intelligence also commended the Commander General of Nigeria Forest Security Service, Dr Joshua Osatimehin for his support and leadership style while assuring citizens of the readiness of Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS) in tackling security challenges bedeviling the country.
