Anambra Police Commissioner Urges Collective Security Efforts at Christmas Carol, Commends Gallant Officers

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, FWC, MNIPS, PhD, has called for renewed collaboration among government, security agencies, community leaders and residents to sustain peace and security across the state.

Speaking at the 2025 Christmas Carol of Nine Lessons and End-of-Year Party of the Anambra State Police Command, CP Orutugu described the event as a moment of reflection, gratitude and recommitment to service, as Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and prepare for the year ahead.

He noted that the values of love, peace, sacrifice,and goodwill associated with the Christmas season align with the theme of the event, “Policing: A Shared Responsibility.” According to him, effective security cannot be achieved by the Police alone but requires the collective efforts of all stakeholders, including traditional rulers, religious institutions, youth groups, the media and law-abiding citizens.

The Police Commissioner expressed appreciation to the Anambra State Government and the people of the state, sister security agencies, members of the Police Management Team, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, tactical units, operatives of joint security task forces and personnel of Operation Agụnachemba, noting that unity and cooperation remain critical in confronting security challenges.

Despite the challenges encountered during the year, CP Orutugu said the Command remained steadfast in its mandate to protect lives and property through intelligence-led policing, joint operations, community engagement and proactive patrols. He attributed recent security gains to timely information from the public and the trust reposed in the Police by Ndi Anambra.

He assured residents and visitors that security has been significantly strengthened across the state for the festive period, with intensified patrols and surveillance at strategic locations, worship centres, markets, highways and recreational areas to ensure a peaceful Christmas and New Year celebration.

While reiterating the commitment of the Command to public safety, CP Orutugu emphasized that security is a collective responsibility and urged residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding and supportive of security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious activities through police stations and designated emergency lines.

Looking ahead to 2026, the Police Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to professionalism, accountability and community-friendly policing, calling for sustained unity and peaceful coexistence among all segments of the society.

In a special recognition, CP Orutugu commended Inspector Okoma Ewa, Corporal Chawalamoke Godsfavour and Constable Emekwisore Ifeanyi for their exceptional courage, swift response and high level of professionalism in the line of duty. He said the officers’ prompt action foiled criminal activities by armed hoodlums, leading to the recovery of arms, stolen money and other incriminating items, and exemplified the core values of the Nigeria Police Force.

He concluded by thanking all stakeholders for their continued support, wishing residents a peaceful Christmas celebration and a prosperous New Year, marked by greater security, harmony and development for Anambra State.
