Orumba North Mayor, Hon. Casmir Nwafor, Wins Multiple Awards as Community Celebrates Transformative Leadership

The Mayor of Orumba North Local Government Area, Hon. Barr. Casmir Nwafor (Rtd.), has continued to draw widespread recognition and admiration following his recent double honours from the African Stride International Media Group, as well as an additional commendation for his outstanding achievements in rural infrastructure.

Hon. Nwafor was conferred with the “Mayor of the Year” award and named Best Mayor in Infrastructure Development and Inclusive Governance on December 3, 2025, acknowledgements many describe as a clear endorsement of his visionary leadership, administrative excellence, and commitment to transformative governance.

In addition to the honours, he also received the Best Mayor Award in Rural Infrastructure, a recognition that further affirms the bold strides made in his first year in office.

According to community leaders and observers, the recognition “captures only a fraction” of the impact Hon. Nwafor has made in Orumba North, where he has laid a strong foundation for sustainable, people-centred development.

Within barely a year in office, Hon. Nwafor has implemented wide-ranging reforms and infrastructure upgrades, including the transformation of the Local Government Secretariat and the opening of key intra- and inter-community access roads. These efforts, residents say, have significantly enhanced mobility, access to essential services, and overall development across Orumba North.

Described by many as “the People’s Mayor” and “the People’s Captain,” he is celebrated for championing inclusive governance and ensuring that no community is left behind.

Beyond infrastructure, his achievements cut across major sectors which include security, as he has strengthened safety and protection of lives and property in the LGA.

On peacebuilding, he has reduced intra-community conflicts through the Peace and Justice Committee.

While on agriculture, he boosted plantain farming with the distribution of over 70,000 plantain stems.

In Healthcare, he equipped health centres with modern medical accessories.

In education & Sports, he supported schools with supplies, musical bands, and revived sporting activities.

Reacting to the awards, Hon. Emmanuel Muoneme (ARISE), Senior Legislative Aide to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, Ph.D., praised the Mayor for restoring public confidence in local governance. He described the awards as a personal milestone and a collective pride for the people of Orumba North and Anambra State.

Hon. Muoneme noted that the Mayor’s courage, integrity, and innovation stand out at a time Nigeria needs transformational leaders. He expressed confidence that the recognitions would inspire him to even greater heights.

Looking Ahead

Orumba North is poised to witness expanded human-capital development programmes targeting youths and women, alongside the imminent rollout of the Orumba North Mass Transit System, expected to enhance transportation across the area.

Many residents say that if Hon. Nwafor could achieve so much within a year, far ahead of many newly elected officials,then the future of the local government is promising.

Referred to by admirers as the Ikolo Dikeora of Orumba, the Mayor continues to push for inclusive development, national relevance, and a better future for all communities under his watch
