Federal Polytechnic Oko Holds Two-Day Recruitment Interview to Address Staff Shortages

The Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, has begun a two-day interview exercise aimed at recruiting qualified personnel to fill vacant positions arising from staff retirements and other forms of exit from service.

The exercise commenced on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. and is being overseen by the Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, who personally announced the names of shortlisted candidates. Addressing the applicants, Dr. Awuzie cautioned that while many candidates were invited for the exercise, only a limited number would eventually be engaged, citing budgetary constraints facing the institution. She urged the candidates to remain patient and understanding throughout the process.
According to the Rector, the recruitment exercise was structured to ensure transparency, fairness, and strict compliance with approved financial limits.

Speaking with journalists at the interview venue, the Acting Registrar, Chief Dominic Nwagwu, explained that the exercise became necessary following the creation of vacancies within the Polytechnic He attributed the gaps in manpower to retirements, voluntary resignations, deaths, and staff relocations.

Chief Nwagwu disclosed that the management of the Polytechnic, under the leadership of Dr. Awuzie sought and obtained approval from the Federal Ministry of Education to recruit new staff to address the shortfall. He added that the vacancies were advertised in the Daily Sun of October 8, 2025, while applications were received until November 19, 2025, in order to guarantee an open and transparent selection process.

He further noted that despite the approval granted, the number of candidates that can be employed remains strictly limited to the quota approved by the Federal Ministry of Education.
The interview exercise is being monitored by officials of the Federal Ministry of Education, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Federal Character Commission to ensure compliance with due process and established guidelines.

Dr. Awuzie, who assumed office as Rector in February 2025, has spent less than one year in office. The Polytechnic management, however, reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and strict adherence to federal regulations in all recruitment and administrative procedures.
