FRSC Intensifies Road Safety Campaign with Church Outreach in Nnewi

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Sector Command, has intensified its public enlightenment drive with a church advocacy programme aimed at promoting safer road practices among residents of the state.

The outreach, held at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Umudim, forms part of the Corps’ strategic goal to reduce road traffic crashes, injuries and fatalities by at least 10 per cent through sustained community engagement and awareness campaigns.
Addressing a congregation of about 1,500 worshippers, the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekauno, underscored the importance of cultivating a strong road safety culture across all segments of society.

She highlighted critical issues including pedestrian safety, the mandatory use of crash helmets, the dangers of overloading and mixed loading, adherence to traffic regulations, the risks of driving against traffic, the menace of underage driving, and the severe consequences of speeding and reckless driving.

According to her, road safety is a shared responsibility requiring collective commitment from motorists, commercial drivers, motorcyclists and pedestrians alike.

“We urge all road users to embrace safe practices and serve as ambassadors of road safety within their communities,” she said, stressing that compliance with traffic laws remains key to preventing avoidable tragedies on Nigerian roads.

The programme featured the distribution of informational flyers and other educational materials to reinforce the safety messages delivered during the service. An interactive session allowed worshippers to seek clarification on road safety concerns, further deepening engagement.

The officiating priest, Rev. Fr. Daniel Ileka, expressed appreciation to the FRSC team for the initiative and offered prayers for the Corps. He also pledged the church’s support in promoting road safety awareness among parishioners and appealed for the establishment of a Special Marshal unit for the church community.
The event was attended by the Unit Commander, RS5.32 Nnewi Unit Command, staff of the Sector Command, and Special Marshals, reflecting a coordinated effort to strengthen collaboration between the FRSC and faith-based organisations.

Observers described the advocacy visit as impactful, noting that partnerships with religious institutions remain vital in advancing the collective mission of ensuring safer roads across Anambra State.

Federal Polytechnic Oko Holds Two-Day Recruitment Interview to Address Staff Shortages

The Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State, has begun a two-day interview exercise aimed at recruiting qualified personnel to fill vacant positions arising from staff retirements and other forms of exit from service.
