Islamic Leader Lauds Southeast Governors on Security, Inclusive Governance

An Islamic leader in southeastern Nigeria has commended state governors in the region for strengthening security and promoting inclusive governance, while urging Muslims and other residents to sustain peace and unity as the country navigates complex social and political dynamics.

In his Eid al-Fitr message, Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, Sarkin Fulani (Fulani leader) in Awka and Chairman of the Arewa Community in Anambra State, said the commitment of Southeast governors to safeguarding lives and accommodating minority groups has helped to foster stability and intercommunal harmony.
He made the remarks as Muslims across Nigeria marked Eid al-Fitr, the festival that signifies the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

Siddiki called on Muslim faithful to uphold the values of peace, tolerance, and lawful conduct, describing the period as one of reflection, gratitude, and renewed dedication to coexistence.
He particularly urged Muslims living in Nigeria’s South East to remain law-abiding and to continue building strong, respectful relationships with their host communities.
“We deeply appreciate the support, understanding, and hospitality extended to us,” he said, reaffirming the Arewa community’s commitment to mutual respect and constructive engagement within society.

The Islamic chieftain also praised Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, for what he described as inclusive leadership and sustained support for minority populations.
Extending his commendation to other governors in the Southeast, Siddiki noted that policies promoting security and inclusion have strengthened trust among Nigeria’s diverse ethnic and religious groups.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, he indicated that the Arewa community in Anambra State would align with political candidates endorsed by Governor Soludo, adding that consultations with stakeholders in northern Nigeria would be pursued to advance shared political interests.
He concluded with prayers for peace, unity, and prosperity in Anambra State and across Nigeria, while seeking divine acceptance of the sacrifices and acts of worship observed during Ramadan.
