NAPS Delegation Visits Fed Oko Poly Rector, Commends Student-Friendly Policies

The Rector of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, on Tuesday received a delegation from the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) during a courtesy visit to her office.

The delegation, led by NAPS Senate President, Comrade Oyewumi Festus Ayomide, was in the institution for its senate sitting.

Speaking during the visit, Ayomide expressed appreciation to the Rector for what he described as her motherly disposition towards students and her unwavering support for student union activities. He disclosed that several institutions were approached to host the NAPS senate sitting but none responded positively until Federal Polytechnic Oko granted approval.

He commended Dr. Awuzie for her prompt response and for fostering a student-friendly administration. “We are proud of your leadership and delighted to associate with Federal Polytechnic Oko,” he said.

The NAPS Senate President further revealed that the Rector has been nominated for the “Best Rector of the Year 2026” award, which is scheduled to be presented at the opening session of the senate sitting. He formally invited her to attend the event.

In her response, Dr. Awuzie welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to supporting student initiatives. She reiterated her stance on rewarding effective student leadership, noting that any Students’ Union Government (SUG) president who performs creditably and responsibly during her tenure stands a chance of being considered for employment within the institution.

Also speaking, the Dean of Student Affairs, Comrade Chibuzo Asomugha, highlighted the Rector’s responsiveness to student-related matters, stating that she has demonstrated consistent commitment to addressing issues affecting students. He added that the relationship between the institution’s management and the SUG remains cordial and productive.

The delegation included former NAPS President and current Director of Strategy and Innovation, Comrade Olalere Benedict Adetunji; Director of Special Duties, Comrade Abdulramon Busari; Clerk of the Senate, Comrade Jimoh Ibrahim; Chief Press Secretary, Comrade Ifeanyi Origbo; and National Stakeholder, Comrade Abdulmumeen Bebe, among others.

They were joined by the Student Union President of the institution, Comrade Anuluonye Ifechukwu, alongside members of the SUG executive council.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie as the substantive Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State.  Dr. Awuzie's appointment, which takes effect immediately for a five-year term, follows the recommendation of the Polytechnic's Governing Council, chaired by Sen. Dr. Barnabas Gemade, after a transparent and competitive selection process where she emerged as the leading candidate.
