Police Commissioner Commends Oko Polytechnic Rector Over Campus Security

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, has commended the Rector of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Chioma Irene Awuzie, for sustaining peace and security within the institution.

Orutugu gave the commendation on Wednesday during a courtesy visit to the Rector at her office in Oko.

The police chief lauded the institution’s longstanding reputation, noting that the polytechnic has produced notable personalities across the country. He expressed personal admiration for the school, describing it as one with a rich tradition of excellence.

He attributed the prevailing peaceful atmosphere and steady development in the institution to the Rector’s leadership qualities, including her humility, discipline, focus and deep understanding of the institution’s internal dynamics.

According to him, Awuzie has effectively deployed her familiarity with the system, having emerged from within, to successfully manage the affairs of the polytechnic.

Orutugu also highlighted improvements in security across Anambra State since he assumed office, citing the successful conduct of the November 8 gubernatorial election and the 2025 Christmas celebrations, both widely regarded as peaceful, as indicators of progress under his leadership.

He further noted that tertiary institutions in the state are currently enjoying relative peace, expressing satisfaction with the security situation.

The Commissioner explained that his visit to the institution was at the instance of the National Association of Polytechnic Students, where he was invited to attend a student programme. He was accompanied by the Students’ Union Government leadership of the institution.

In her response, Awuzie welcomed the Police Commissioner and commended his efforts in improving security across the state.

She noted that the security situation had significantly improved since his assumption of office, enabling residents to live with greater confidence.

The Rector also praised the cordial working relationship between the police command and the institution, assuring the Commissioner of the management’s continued cooperation and support.

Principal officers present at the meeting included the Deputy Rector (Administration), Dr. Ferguson Ezeokafor; the Registrar, Mr. Akeem Ayoola; and the Director of Academic Planning, Dr. Kenneth Ezekwe.
