Frontline aspirant for the House of Representatives seat to represent Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, Amb. Ikebunwa Lotanna, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 general election after obtaining the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), at the National Headquarters of the party in Abuja.
The development officially signals his entry into the race for the Green Chamber under the platform of the NDC.
Speaking shortly after obtaining the forms, Amb. Ikebunwa described the moment as a major step in his commitment to public service and grassroots development across the constituency.
He expressed gratitude to God and appreciated the growing support he has continued to receive from youths, women, community leaders, political stakeholders and supporters across the three local government areas.
According to the aspirant, his decision to contest is driven not by personal ambition but by what he described as the increasing demand from constituents for accessible, responsive and people-oriented representation at the National Assembly.
He said his aspiration also aligns with the broader vision of the NDC to reposition the country through purposeful leadership and inclusive governance.
Amb. Ikebunwa noted that in recent months he had engaged extensively with residents across Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo, listening to their concerns and expectations regarding governance and representation.
He observed that many young people in the constituency are in urgent need of employment opportunities, empowerment programmes and skills development initiatives, while women and small business owners require stronger economic support and practical intervention programmes to improve their livelihoods.
According to him, his interactions with traders, entrepreneurs, professionals and community stakeholders reinforced his conviction that the constituency deserves leadership anchored on accountability, innovation, compassion and visible developmental impact.
He stressed that representation at the National Assembly should go beyond occupying political office in Abuja, insisting that lawmakers must remain connected to the grassroots and ensure that federal opportunities translate into tangible benefits for the people.
Outlining his vision for the constituency, the aspirant said his agenda would focus on youth empowerment, women development, support for small and medium-scale enterprises, educational advancement, infrastructure development and constituency-based intervention programmes capable of delivering measurable results.
He also pledged to maintain an open-door leadership style and sustain close engagement with constituents if elected into office.
“I am not seeking political office for prestige or titles, but because I strongly believe that our constituency deserves responsive, inclusive and transformational representation,” he said.
Amb. Ikebunwa further appreciated what he described as the growing confidence being reposed in him by residents of the constituency, maintaining that he possesses the vision, grassroots connection and development blueprint needed to provide effective representation.
He called on constituents to continue supporting and praying for his aspiration, urging the people of Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency to embrace what he described as a collective movement towards redefining leadership and entrenching people-focused representation.
The aspirant expressed optimism that with the support of the people and divine grace, the constituency would witness a new era of accessible and impactful representation in the years ahead.
