Federal Polytechnic Oko Appoints Dr. Okafor Ifeanyi Fidelis as Director of Medical Services

The Federal Polytechnic Oko has on Tuesday 26th May,2026 appointed  Dr. Okafor Ifeanyi Fidelis as the Director of Medical Services of the institution.

Dr. Okafor, a distinguished medical practitioner and experienced General Surgeon, brings to the office a wealth of professional experience spanning over fourteen years across tertiary, secondary, and primary healthcare systems.

An Alumni of University of Benin, A Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) and Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (MRCS England), Dr. Okafor also holds a Master of Science degree in Human Anatomy from Ahmadu Bello University. He is equally certified in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) by the American College of Surgeons.

Before his appointment, Dr. Okafor served in several strategic clinical and administrative capacities at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, where he demonstrated strong leadership in surgical services, clinical governance, patient safety, and healthcare quality improvement.

His appointment is expected to further strengthen healthcare delivery and medical services within the Polytechnic community, leveraging his extensive expertise in hospital administration, multidisciplinary coordination, and strategic healthcare management.

The appointment followed strict adherence to due process, in line with the officially advertised position and a transparent, merit-based interview process conducted by the Governing Council of the Institution ably led by Senator Engr. Dr. Barnabas Gemade. The appointment is for a single tenure of five (5) years, in accordance with established regulations. 

The Polytechnic community has welcomed7 the appointment with optimism, expressing confidence in Dr. Okafor’s capacity to reposition the institution’s medical services towards greater efficiency and excellence.

The management of Federal Polytechnic Oko has appointed Dr. Ifeanyi Fidelis Okafor as the institution’s new Director of Medical Services.

The appointment, which took effect on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, is expected to bolster healthcare delivery within the polytechnic community, leveraging Dr. Okafor’s extensive experience in clinical practice, hospital6 administration and healthcare management.

A seasoned medical practitioner and General Surgeon, Dr. Okafor brings over 14 years of professional experience spanning tertiary, secondary and primary healthcare systems across Nigeria.

An alumnus of University of Benin, he is a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons and a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He also holds a Master of Science degree in Human Anatomy from Ahmadu Bello University and is certified in Advanced Trauma Life Support by the American College of Surgeons.

Before his appointment, Dr. Okafor served in several strategic clinical and administrative roles at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, where he was credited with providing leadership in surgical services, patient safety, clinical governance and healthcare quality improvement.

The institution noted that the appointment followed a transparent and merit-based selection process conducted in line with due process and established regulations.

According to the Polytechnic management, the exercise was supervised by the Governing Council led by Senator Engr. Dr. Barnabas Gemade, following the official advertisement of the position and subsequent interview process.

Dr. Okafor’s appointment is for a single tenure of five years.

Members of the Polytechnic community have since welcomed the development, expressing optimism that his leadership would reposition the institution’s medical services towards greater efficiency, innovation and excellence.
