Obetta’s Blueprint: NDC Takes Enugu’s Defiance to Abuja

The Nigeria Democratic Congress is putting the final touches on security and logistics arrangements as delegates prepare to converge in Abuja City for this weekend’s National Convention.

The move comes after the party’s leadership said it learned valuable lessons from the disruption at the Enugu State congress, where swift action by party officials prevented a breakdown of order.

Enugu Incident Shapes Convention Strategy

During the Enugu State congress, a group of hoodlums tried to derail the process. The State Chairman, Engr Ibuchukwu Obetta, and his executive team at both state and LGA levels refused to back down. They mounted a strong defense that allowed the congress to proceed without compromising party procedure.

According to party insiders, Engr Obetta’s track record as a seasoned politician is now playing a key role in rebuilding the NDC’s structure in Enugu. His experience and political acumen are expected to drive the party’s push to capture power in the state in the coming elections.

The Enugu State Working Committee of the party proudly notes that Enugu sets the pace while others follow. The SWC is proud to have experienced politicians like their State Chairman Engr Ibuchukwu Obetta, Sir Kevin Okenwa, the Igbo Etiti LGA Party Chairman, and Barr. Chukwudi Igwe at the NWC, alongside major stakeholder Maazi Matthias Ezeaku, leading from the front.

That same resolve and leadership depth now guide the party’s approach to the National Convention in Abuja

Abuja Convention: Security First

NDC’s advance team has already mapped out multiple movement routes for delegates, tested during peak hours to avoid traffic delays. The main convention venue has been swept and secured, with defined entry and exit points, functional backup power, and a pre-arranged safe location for emergencies.

On the medical front, the party has partnered with local health facilities to guarantee 24/7 emergency support. Communication lines have also been reinforced with alternative radio and satellite systems to prevent any blackout during the event.

Looking Ahead

Party leaders say the  Abuja convention will showcase the NDC’s readiness and unity as it positions itself ahead of future elections. They commended the Enugu team for setting an example of courage and discipline under pressure.

With preparations wrapping up today, the Nigeria Democratic Congress says it is set to host a convention that is both secure and true to democratic ideals.
