Amb. Lotanna Ikebunwa Dispels Rumours of Hon. Peter Uzokwe's adoption, Reaffirms His Victory in NDC Primaries, Urges Supporters to Remain Calm

Amb. Lotanna Ikebunwa a leading aspirant in the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) House of Representatives primary election for Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, held on the 30th of May 2026, has called on his supporters across the constituency to remain calm and disregard what he described as false rumours surrounding the outcome of the primary election in the federal constituency.

Speaking through his media team, Ikebunwa dismissed claims that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party had adopted the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Peter Uzokwe, as the party's candidate for the forthcoming election.

According to him, such reports are entirely unfounded and should be treated as misinformation intended to create confusion among party members and supporters.

"It is very clear from the records and the voters' register used during the primary process that we secured a convincing victory. Any claim suggesting that another candidate has been adopted by the party leadership is false and misleading," he stated.

The aspirant maintained that the results from the various local government areas within the federal constituency clearly reflected the wishes of party members.

Providing details of his performance during the exercise, Ikebunwa said he polled 503 votes in Nnewi South and garnered well over 1,000 votes in Nnewi North before the process was allegedly disrupted. He further noted that he had already secured over 59 votes in Ekwusigo LGA before the interruption of the exercise by people believed to be working for the incumbent House of Representatives member who also hails from Ekwusigo.

He also alleged that a significant number of women supporters who were lined up in his favour at the venue were prevented from completing the voting process following the disruption, adding that video evidence exists to substantiate his claims.

Ambassador Ikebunwa expressed confidence that the party would ultimately uphold the true outcome of the primary election, insisting that all available evidence points to a landslide victory in his favour.

He therefore urged his supporters to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and steadfast while awaiting the final decision of the party leadership.

"Victory is assured. We have confidence in the party's internal mechanisms and believe that justice will prevail. Our supporters should remain calm and focused as we continue to pursue the mandate freely given to us by the people," he said.

The Nnewi Federal Constituency primary has generated considerable interest within the party, with stakeholders awaiting the final resolution of issues arising from the exercise.

Amb. Lotanna Ikebunwa further expressed confidence in the growing popularity of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), stating that the party remains one of the fastest-rising political platforms in the country. He noted that with unity, discipline, and commitment among party members and stakeholders, the NDC stands a strong chance of winning the forthcoming election in the Nnewi Federal Constituency and beyond.

He urged party faithful to remain focused on the larger objective of securing victory for the party, stressing that internal disagreements should not be allowed to undermine the collective aspiration of providing effective representation and quality leadership to the people.
