Mr Vitus Chinedu Enyeribe, the Chairman of Old Motor Spare Parts in Nkwo Nnewi has cried to Anambra State government to save the traders from a gully erosion that has sacked stall, even as crisis   rocking another section of the market deepens. Mr Enyeribe, lamented that over fifteen shops have already been lost to the advancing erosion with other shops at the verge of being swallowed. He said the association had applied all palliative measures it could afford to no avail "and the situation has gone beyond our control now." Enyeribe said the erosion also destroyed goods in the market, as the incident mostly happened at nights after heavy rains. He said, victims of the disaster had remained helpless with the hope that government would come to their rescue, but to no avail. The Presidency yesterday maintained   that the Executive Order 6 is not a political weapon against opposition but part of revolutionary efforts to rid Nigeria of the menace of corruption. It also disowned a list in circulation containing names of the 50 high profile persons reportedly banned from travelling out of the country. In a statement by senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, the presidency said in the history of independent Nigeria, this is the first time any government is taking such a key decision to fight corruption. Shehu dismissed insinuation in some quarters that the activation of the EO 6 was targeted at some individuals or politicians in the country. He said, “EO 6 is not only revolutionary to the efforts to rid Nigeria of corruption but a manifestation of systemic changes that are required to make necessary adjustments as we carry on with the war against corruption.

A judicial advocacy group, Access to Justice, has criticised President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent executive order barring 50 high profile Nigerians from travelling outside the country. In a statement Sunday, the group said the president, by his action, is setting a dangerous precedent. “While Access to Justice supports efforts to fight corruption in the most vigorous way possible, the PEO (Presidential Executive Order) is an unconstitutional overreach of the executive powers of government,” said Joseph Otteh, Director, Access to Justice. “It usurps legislative and judicial powers, and particularly emasculates the powers of courts to determine cases against those named in the PEO and exercise its’ inherent jurisdiction to control conditions related to how under-trial (accused) persons exercise their rights to liberty and movement.” Mr Buhari on Saturday announced that the 50 individuals , whose identities were not disclosed and whose assets are valued at N50 million ...

Uli community in Ihiala local government of Anambra state over the weekend celebrated its 2018 new yam Festival with pomp. The new yam Festival which was one of its kind, was celebrated to mark the end of farming, and the start of harvest season.
