Enugu guber: Don’t go to Supreme Court - Ohanaeze tells Edeoga

Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has again appealed to the Labour Party, LP, governorship candidate in Enugu State, Barr Chijioke Edeoga to end further litigation over the outcome of the 2023 election.

The group made the appeal while reacting to the Appeal Court judgement which upheld the election of Governor Peter Mbah of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

It could be re-called that the three-man panel resolved all the issues in the favour of the respondent, Mbah.

Edeoga has since indicated interest to appeal the judgement.

But in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday, the National President of the Ohanaeze Youth wing, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike urged the LP candidate not to pursue the matter further.

He congratulated Governor Peter Mbah for “recording an expected victory at the Appeal Court. We had no doubt that it would not be different from the sound judgement delivered by the Tribunal.

"We also congratulate Senator Osita Ngwu, representing Enugu West Senatorial Zone and Engr Anayo Onwuegbu of Oji River/Awgu/Aninri Federal Constituency, both of whom the Appeal Court stamped their victories.

"Their respective victories were well deserved."

Okwu, who recalled that he made a similar appeal after the election, stressed that “now that both the Tribunal and the Appeal Court have delivered the same line of judgement, it is high time our brother, Barr Chijioke Edeoga ended every legal tussle on the Enugu election.

“He has indeed put up a good fight; but there should be an end to everything.

“There is no need advancing further to the Supreme Court as this only ends up in distracting the governor from delivering democracy dividends to the people.

“The Governor had on several occasions extended a hand of fellowship to him; we feel it is high time he accepted to work with the governor in the overall interest of the people of the State.”

“Governor Peter Mbah has already kicked off development projects on a high speed in Enugu State and all he needs now is the support of the good people of the state, Barr Edeoga inclusive,” Okwu stated.
