NASU Oko Honours Governing Council Chairman, Rector, Others for Transformational Leadership

The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), Federal Polytechnic Oko Branch, has honoured key institutional leaders and dedicated union members for their outstanding contributions to the growth and stability of the institution. The recognitions were made during the Regular Meeting of the Polytechnics and Others Trade Group Council of NASU, held at the Polytechnic Auditorium, Extension Site.

The gathering brought together Chairmen, Secretaries, and Treasurers from NASU branches across Polytechnics, Colleges of Agriculture, and allied institutions nationwide.

Declaring the event open on behalf of the Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, the Polytechnic Librarian, Dr. Nwabu Ezemba, commended NASU for its pivotal role in staff welfare, institutional progress, and maintaining industrial harmony. He praised the union’s consistent support in ensuring a stable and productive academic environment.

In goodwill messages, the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Federal Polytechnic Oko Chapter, Barr. F. M. Oduah, and the Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Universities, Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes and Allied Institutions (SSAUTHRIAI), Comr. Godson Nzekwe, applauded NASU for its sustained collaboration and dedication to institutional development.

Delivering his address, the State Chairman of both the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and NASU Anambra State Council, Comr. Humphrey Nwafor, emphasized unity, collective responsibility, and proactive engagement as essential tools for improving staff welfare and advancing the polytechnic system.

Highlights of the event included the presentation of merit awards to distinguished leaders. Senator Barnabas Gemade (OFR), Chairman of the Governing Council—represented by Dr. Egwuchukwu Ifensor—received a Merit Award for Excellent Leadership. The Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, represented by Dr. Ezemba, and NASU General Secretary, Prince Peters A. Adeyemi (JP), received Distinguished Leadership Merit Awards for their exemplary service and commitment.

Five dedicated NASU members were also honoured for their steadfast service: Mrs. Emenike Deborah, Comr. Epelle Kelvin Iyumame, Mrs. Igboeli Blessing Ngozika, Mrs. Arinze Ngozi Anne, and Mrs. Chizoba Agbodike.

Speaking at the event, the NASU Branch Chairman, Comr. Emmanuel Okolie, commended the awardees for their integrity, professionalism, and devotion to staff welfare, describing their contributions as exemplary and worthy of emulation.

The ceremony underscored NASU’s commitment to excellence, collaboration, and transformative leadership within the nation’s polytechnic sector

Tension In Uruagu Nnewi As Community Leaders Dare Soludo,Defy Court Order

The President of Uruagu-Nnewi Development Union, Chief Sunday Okoli aka Organizer, and the Obi of Uruagu-Nnewi community in Nnewi North local government area of Anambra State, His Majesty Afamefuna Charles Obi, have swept Soludo's directive to the gutters, by reason of their suspension and subsequent dessolution of the leadership of the community's youth forum, led by Ejike Ifejiofor, and subsequent appointment of caretaker executive to pilot the affairs of youths in the community.
