Pastor Lawrence's meeting is illegal, says Nnewi North ADC

From Ijeoma John, Nnewi

Crisis erupted within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Sunday, February 15, 2026 as Nnewi North party executives stormed Obi Nnewichi Hall to stop what they tagged as 'illegal meeting' convened by the State Secretary of the party, Pastor Lawrence.

Speaking to our correspondent, Mr. Ndubuisi Tabugbo Unachukwu from Okpuno- Ezeobuo Nnewichi, Nnewi said according to the rules and regulations guiding the party, they must be consulted as the Local Government Excos before any meeting must be held in their council.

"We are the custodian of ADC in Nnewi North, for security reason, we must know the attendees of any meeting, agenda because if anything happens in ADC Nnewi North, the security agencies will hold us responsible.
They have arranged their meeting, we only received invitation" he emphasized.

Unachukwu noted when Pastor Lawrence approached the Nnewi North ADC Chairman, Prince Chijioke Ofordile he told the Chairman that the meeting was only to sit down with the people of his ward, Nnewichi ward 1, which according to him they later realized that the meeting was not only for Nnewi North but for the entire Anambra South Senatorial zone.

"Pastor Lawrence lied to us, which we sensed a hidden agenda. We are here today to stop the illegal meeting but at the point of taking the action, Obi Nnewichi, His Highness Obi George Onyekaba intervened, condemning Lawrence's action but for the sake of the people that came from afar, Obi Onyekaba said he would only allow the meeting to hold briefly just for today, after today, any other meeting that would be called, must be approved by the ADC Nnewi North Chairman and his Excos" he explained.

According to one of the persons seen at the Obi Nnewichi, who pleaded anonymity said the meeting was held by a Pressure Group called COPDEM, who was using umbrella of ADC to gather people for their hidden interest.

He further alleged that the Group is being funded by the ADC Governorship Candidate for the just concluded gubernatorial election, Mr. John Nwosu.

"Mr. John Nwosu is funding and forming parallel structures of ADC not only in Nnewi North LG but other Local Governments like Aguata and Njikoka among others against Mr. Peter Obi using the COPDEM group because PO did not support John Nwosu during the last Anambra State Governorship Election in November, 2025. In retaliation, John Chuma Nwosu is determined to fund diverse groups and characters to destabilise ADC in Peter Obi's home base. He will fail. We shall fight him and his groups physically if need be. We are for PO for President under ADC. No other Anambra Son is running for President of Nigeria under any Party. Our support for him is Total. His enemies are enemies of ADC and the whole masses of Anambra State" he further alleged.
