At least 30 young people from Anambra State and other parts of Nigeria have received financial support totaling ₦15 million under a youth empowerment programme organized by the Faithspiration Initiative.
The grants were disbursed during the third edition of the group’s youth forum, themed “Ablazed with the Fire of God,” held at the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity in Onitsha. The event brought together no fewer than 50,000 youths from across the South-East and South-South regions, alongside religious leaders and public officials.
Building on the legacy of its previous editions, the forum has emerged as a major platform for spiritual growth, motivational discourse and youth empowerment. Its inaugural edition, themed “Blossoming Youth, Flourishing Generation,” and the second edition, “Gen Zs: Limitless for Christ,” attracted thousands of participants and facilitated the disbursement of millions of naira in grants. Organizers said the third edition was designed to expand both its spiritual and economic impact through worship sessions, lectures, entertainment and direct financial support.
Funding for the initiative was provided by a coalition of political and private sector figures, including Uche Harris Annie Okonkwo, who represents Idemili North and South Federal Constituency; Sly Ezeokenwa; Victor Umeh; and Ifeanyi Micheal Onwuachu.
Also supporting the programme was Peter Obi, who addressed beneficiaries shortly after the disbursement. He urged them to use the funds responsibly and focus on creating meaningful impact.
“Money does not bring happiness; impact does,” Obi said. “Rather than pursuing wealth alone, strive to change the world. If you do so, financial success will follow.”
Other sponsors echoed similar sentiments, encouraging recipients to invest the funds prudently in sustainable ventures.
The event also featured entertainment performances by gospel artistes and comedians, alongside a lecture titled “Six Allegations Against Christianity in Igboland” delivered by Johnbosco Igwe.
Founder of the initiative, George Adimike, described in full as Very Rev. Fr. Dr. George Adimike, said the programme is designed to equip young people with both financial resources and moral guidance.
According to him, beneficiaries underwent a screening and training process prior to receiving grants to enhance the sustainability of their ventures. He added that the initiative focuses on three pillars, empowerment, entertainment and evangelism and is open to participants regardless of religious affiliation.
Adimike also commended His Grace, Most Rev. Dr. Valerian Maduka Okeke, Archbishop of Onitsha and Metropolitan of the Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, for his presence and support at the event. He further eulogised him, describing him as a spiritual leader whose commitment to youth development and moral guidance continues to inspire initiatives within the Archdiocese.
The event was climaxed with the celebration of the Holy Mass by priests in attendance.
Other dignitaries present included Tony Nwora; Patrick Aghamba; and Ebuka Igwe, among others.
Organizers said participants attended from multiple locations, including Port Harcourt, Uyo, Benin Republic, Bayelsa, Delta, Enugu, Nsukka and Awka, reflecting the growing reach of the initiative.
