Anambra Patriots Endorse Assembly Aspirants, Pledge Grassroots Mobilisation

From Mary Obi, Anambra

Anambra Patriots for Soludo (APS), a grassroots political support group aligned with Governor Chukwuma Soludo, has endorsed candidates for the Anambra State House of Assembly and announced plans to intensify mobilisation ahead of the forthcoming elections in the state.
The group said it aims to strengthen its political influence across the 326 wards of Anambra State and increase the number of its supported candidates in the next State Assembly, as part of efforts to promote governance continuity and accountability.

The endorsement was made during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Awka South Local Government Area, where members unanimously selected Engr. Obiora Okafor for Awka South State Constituency I and Pharmacist Onyedikachukwu Egbutu for Awka South State Constituency II (Obizi).
The decision followed motions moved by Hon. Charles Nwafor and Chief Boniface Egbutu, and seconded by Mrs Ebere Nwasike and Comrade Chinyere, with members expressing support for both aspirants.
Speaking at the meeting, the National Chairman of APS, Ozo George Enekwechi, said the aspirants were selected after what he described as background checks and assessments of their competence and political engagement.
Enekwechi said APS, which he described as one of the largest political support groups in the state, would continue to mobilise its members across the state in support of candidates aligned with its governance objectives.
He said the group’s endorsements were based on principles of good governance, accountability, and performance, adding that the selected aspirants were considered capable of addressing what he called gaps in representation in their constituencies.
He further stated that APS would hold any candidate it supports accountable, stressing that its backing would depend on performance and delivery if elected.
Some stakeholders at the meeting, including Chief Emeka Aghasili and Hon. Emma Nwonwu, expressed concern over what they described as inadequate legislative representation in recent years.
They said the endorsed candidates should prioritise effective representation and constituency development if elected.
The group reiterated its commitment to grassroots mobilisation ahead of the elections, saying its objective is to consolidate support for the administration’s development agenda across Anambra State.
