UNIZIK poised for excellent service delivery as new Librarian, Director Information/ Public Relations, 5 others assume office

Expectations are high for a more efficient service delivery and productivity at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka as the University Librarian and six directors appointed into offices by the Governing Council on Friday, April 17, 2026, officially assumed duties on Monday, April 20, 2026.


At the University Librarian’s Office, an official handover ceremony marked the transition of leadership in the institution’s library system. The newly appointed University Librarian, Prof. Jacinta Ukamaka Eze, formally assumed office from the Acting Librarian, Prof. Onwudinjo.
In her remarks, Prof. Eze expressed gratitude to the Governing Council, University Management, staff, and students for the opportunity to serve. She urged library staff to uphold professionalism, good conduct, and teamwork to enhance service delivery. She further noted that she would carefully review and sign the handover documents upon satisfactory clearance.

Earlier, Prof. Onwudinjo assured her successor of continued support and availability for guidance when needed.

At the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, the newly appointed Director, Comrade Aloysius Emeka Attah, received handover documents from the outgoing Acting Director, Mr Louis Njelita, represented by the Head of Protocol Unit, Mr Joshua Chukwu.

In his address, Comrade Attah, a seasoned journalist and Public Relations expert, emphasised teamwork and collaboration, stating his commitment to leading as a team player. He described the Directorate as the “face” of the University and charged staff to remain diligent and committed while stressing the need to sustain the university reputation through excellence in information management and public relations.

“Nnamdi Azikiwe University is a great university and the University of All Times. At this moment in history, we have an excellent management team in the university led by the visionary Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Barr. Monsur Olugbenga Kukoyi, who is committed to excellence with his team. Our Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Stanley Anyaehie has left no one in doubt within few months in office that he is here to make a great positive difference in administration, university development and advancement beneficial to all stakeholders. We must therefore, ensure that we amplify, project and protect this reputation bearing in mind that without effective communication, even the greatest ideas, policies and innovations won’t succeed” he stated.

At the University Medical Centre, a similar ceremony took place as the outgoing Acting Director, Dr Clement Ojukwu, handed over to the new Director, Dr Jane Ezeonu.

Dr Ezeonu commended her predecessor for his dedication and impactful service, describing the transition as seamless. She expressed optimism for continued improvements in healthcare delivery within the University.

At the Directorate of Procurement, Architect Damian Oduche formally handed over to the new Director, Mr Akuma Peter Ifeanyi. The outgoing Director urged staff to extend the same level of cooperation to his successor.

In his acceptance remarks, Mr Akuma appreciated his predecessor’s contributions and highlighted the importance of prudence and integrity in managing government resources. He also appealed for staff support and continued guidance from the former Director.

At the Directorate of Works Services, the new Director, Engr. Ibe Obinna, took over from the outgoing Acting Director, Engr. Okoye Joseph, in a ceremony marked by goodwill messages from staff.

Engr. Okoye noted that his tenure, which began in November 2025, had come to an end and encouraged his successor to build on existing achievements. In response, Engr. Ibe thanked staff for their warm reception and emphasised teamwork as key to success.

At the Directorate of Physical Planning, leadership transitioned to the new Director, Engr. Ezeokafor Lawrence, following a brief handover by the Acting Director, Quantity Surveyor Okechukwu Chiedozie.

Engr. Ezeokafor expressed appreciation for the support received and stressed the importance of collaboration to improve efficiency within the Directorate.

At the Safety Unit, the outgoing Chief Safety Officer, Chief Ken Chukwurah, handed over to the new Chief Safety Officer, Mr Obi Collins Chinedum. He encouraged staff to support the new leadership and expressed confidence in his successor’s ability to enhance campus safety.

In his remarks, Mr Chinedum appreciated the foundation laid by his predecessor and pledged to build on it to strengthen safety and security across the University.

All handover ceremonies were well attended by staff, who expressed confidence in the new leadership and urged them to align with the vision of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, in advancing the University’s progress.

Tinubu Appoints Chioma Awuzie Substantive Rector, Fed Poly Oko
