The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of one Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), alongside 774 other senior and junior officers of the Nigeria Police Force. The promotions were approved on Thursday following written examinations and oral interviews conducted on December 17, 2025, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja. The exercise was presided over by the PSC Chairman, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Hashimu Salihu Argungu. Among those elevated is AIG Mohammed Usman Gumel, who was promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police. Until his elevation, Gumel served as the AIG in charge of the Community Policing Project Department at the Force Headquarters.
