PSC Promotes DIG, Seven AIGs, 13 CPs, 30 DCPs, 724 Others

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of one Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), alongside 774 other senior and junior officers of the Nigeria Police Force.

The promotions were approved on Thursday following written examinations and oral interviews conducted on December 17, 2025, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja. The exercise was presided over by the PSC Chairman, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Hashimu Salihu Argungu.

Among those elevated is AIG Mohammed Usman Gumel, who was promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police. Until his elevation, Gumel served as the AIG in charge of the Community Policing Project Department at the Force Headquarters.

In the same exercise, seven Commissioners of Police (CPs) were promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs). They include CP Ihebom Chukwuma of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), CP Maxwell Olatokunbo of the K-9 Unit, and CP Abaniwonda Olufemi of the Delta State Command.

Thirteen Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) were also promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police. Among them are DCP Babalola Ayodeji Johnson, DCP Ali Umar Fage, DCP Cyril Uche Obiozo, and DCP Tabitha Bako.

Additionally, 30 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) were elevated to the rank of Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), including ACP Muhammad Nuhu Diggi of Dala Division, Kano State; ACP Udu Moses Ogechi of Gombe State; and ACP Afolaogun Toyin of Abeokuta.

The Commission further approved the promotion of 51 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) to Assistant Commissioners of Police, 542 Superintendents of Police (SPs) to Chief Superintendents of Police, 119 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) to Superintendents of Police, and 12 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) to Deputy Superintendents of Police.

The PSC reiterated that the promotions were based on merit, performance, and successful completion of the required examinations and interviews, in line with its commitment to strengthening professionalism and efficiency within the Nigeria Police Force.

Tension In Uruagu Nnewi As Community Leaders Dare Soludo,Defy Court Order
