His Political Journey
Taking us back memory lane, Nwajiuba’s political career began in 1999 when he was elected to the House of Representatives, representing Okigwe South Federal Constituency. He was elected a member of the House of Representatives in 1999 – 2003 where he served as House of Representatives committee chairman on Land, Housing and works.
He was a founding member of All Progressives Congress and Secretary of the Constitution drafting committee that produced the Constitution that gave birth to All Progressives Congress in 2013. He was the Chairman of Tertiary Education Trust Fund from 2017 to 2019. And former minister of state education during former President Muhammed Buhari GCFR.
A determined contender, Nwajiuba sought the governorship of Imo State multiple times first under the All People’s Party (APP) in 2003 and 2007, and later under the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in 2011. Though unsuccessful in these bids, his persistence underscored his ambition to effect change at the state level. His political versatility shone through when he became a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2013, serving as the Secretary of the Constitution Drafting Committee that birthed the party’s framework—a pivotal role in shaping Nigeria’s ruling party.
In 2019, Nwajiuba was re-elected to the House of Representatives under the Accord Party, only to defect to the APC shortly after. His return to the National Assembly was brief, as President Muhammadu Buhari nominated him as Minister of State for Education later that year.

His tenure as Minister of State for Education
As Minister of State for Education from 2019 to 2022, Nwajiuba played a critical role in steering Nigeria’s educational sector through challenging times, including the COVID-19 pandemic. Working alongside the Minister of Education, he was instrumental in crafting policies to ensure the safe resumption of schools, leveraging his platform to communicate updates during Presidential Task Force briefings. His prior experience as Chairman of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Board of Trustees from 2017 to 2019 equipped him with insights into higher education funding and infrastructure, which he brought to bear in his ministerial duties.
Nwajiuba’s tenure was not without bold moves. In April 2022, he resigned his position to pursue the APC presidential nomination for the 2023 election, a decision spurred by the Project Nigeria Group, which purchased the N100 million nomination forms on his behalf. In March 2025, he made headlines by donating food palliatives to Muslim communities across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to mark the end of Ramadan a gesture reflecting his commitment to interfaith harmony and community welfare.
Earlier, in 2023, he filed a legal challenge against President Bola Tinubu’s candidacy, signaling his willingness to confront political heavyweights when principle demands it.
