The residents of Enekwasumpu Obosi in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State are celebrating a major milestone in the development of their neighbouhood.

This is came as the charismatic Mayor of Idemili North L.G.A, Hon. Stanley Nkwoka, flagged off the construction of the 0.563-kilometre John Nwadiobi Road, which is set to become the first interlocked road in Southeastern Nigeria.

The ceremony which took place at the Nwadiobi road/expres way on 25th June, 2025 attracted the President General of Obosi, members of the Igwe-in-Council of Obosi Ukwala, chieftaincy title holders, political appointees, and residents, was a grand affair. The Mayor, who is known for his people-centric approach to governance, expressed his delight in finally being able to deliver on his promise to fix the age-long bad road.
According to the Mayor, the road project is a pilot scheme that will stand the test of time. He assured the residents that the road would be completed in 10 weeks and would be a marvel to behold. "This is the first time the state will be witnessing the construction of a major road with interlocks, a stone-based. We will make it happen in Idemili North. It is going to be a beauty," he promised.

Speaking to newsmen, the contractor handling the project, Mr. Odira Eze, explained that the interlocking stones used for the project are special and would last for at least 50 years. "This interlocking is not the regular ones we put in our houses. This one is a special interlock that you do not have anywhere in Southeast only in Lagos and Benin republic. The road is about 0.563 kilometres, and it will come with streetlights,".
Engr Eze stressed that "every country is trying to put up structures that is eco friendly and easy to maintain, and that is why we chose this particular structure as a pilot phase. If there is a failure on a particular place, you simply remove it and replace it without causing you to undertake the reconstruction. The man power is avaliable and it lasts longer than the normal asphalt. So it's a pilot project and Nigerians are beginning to key into, like in lagos".

The residents of Enekwasumpu Obosi however commended the Mayor for his efforts in fixing the bad road. They expressed their gratitude to the state government for approving the budget for the project and praised the Mayor for his commitment to delivering on his promises.
Highpoint of the flag off was the visitation to the Palace of the Chairman of Anambra State Council of Traditional Rulers and the King of Obosi Kingdom, Igwe Chidubem Iweka III.
